AMHERST, Mass. – The Amherst College Mammoths won both games of a doubleheader against the Hamilton College Continentals to secure a NESCAC West Division series win at Amherst's Memorial Field on Saturday, April 25.
Season Update
- Hamilton (15-16, 6-6 NESCAC West) won game one of the series on Friday, April 24 by a score of 4-1, which clinched them a spot in the NESCAC Championship.
- Amherst (22-10, 7-5) took two games in each its final three conference series.
Game 1 (Amherst wins, 8-1 in 7 inn.)
How It Happened
- Amherst jumped out to an 8-0 lead after two innings. Zander Carnahan drove in two runs during a five-run inning for the Mammoths in the bottom of the first, then he drove in two more runs with a single to center field in the second. Leo Foust drove in Carnahan to make it 8-0.
- Lucas Herman '26 led off the top of the sixth with a walk, advanced to second on a single by Taylor Kaufman '26 and scored following an Amherst throwing error.
Notes
- Herman went 2-for-2 with one walk and one run.
- Kaufman and Alfonso Rada '27 reached base twice with a hit and a walk each.
- Daniel Sullivan '28 added a hit for the Continentals.
- Hamilton's Tanner Quinn '27 tossed two scoreless innings in relief.
- Amherst's Saahi Jetti improved to 7-1 on the season after recording eight strikeouts with one unearned run allowed in seven innings.
- Carnahan finished with two hits, two runs and four runs batted in.
Game 2 (Amherst wins, 4-1)
How It Happened
- Chester Boynton '27 led off game two with a single up the middle and stole second base with one out, but was stranded on base.
- Justin Orridge drove in Tyler McCord with a single up the middle in the bottom of the first for a 1-0 Amherst lead.
- Amherst doubled its advantage in the bottom of the fifth as Jackson Boyer brought in Ben Smith with a sacrifice fly to left field.
- The Mammoths increased their lead to 4-0 in the sixth with the help of a leadoff double by Charlie LaFreniere and an RBI single by Smith.
- Kaufman led off the ninth with a single through the left side and crossed the plate following a double to left center by Anthony Palumbo '29.
Notes
- Palumbo recorded his seventh double of the season and added a walk.
- Sullivan recorded a hit for the third straight game.
- Aden Soroca '27 pitched seven innings with two strikeouts and two earned runs allowed.
- Mantas Kempinas '28 allowed zero hits and zero runs in one inning in relief.
- Amherst's Naaveen Narayanan improved to 3-0 on the season after recording eight strikeouts with one hit and zero runs allowed in six innings of work.
- Walker Dellinger earned the save for the Mammoths after pitching the final three innings with four strikeouts.
- McCord and LaFreniere both went 2-for-4 with one run for Amherst.
