Women's tennis improves to 3-0 with thrilling win over No. 37 Colby

Continentals got the match off to a great start by dominating doubles play

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College won all three doubles matches and the Continentals edged the Colby College Mules 4-3 in NESCAC action inside Hamilton's Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Saturday, March 7.
 

Season Update

  • The Continentals (3-0, 1-0 NESCAC) defeated their first ranked opponent this spring in their home opener.
  • Nationally ranked No. 37 Colby (1-1, 0-1) started its spring season with a 7-0 victory against Endicott College on March 1.
 

How It Happened

  • Hamilton captured the team doubles point by sweeping the three doubles matches.
  • Muhan Cui '28 put a second point on the board for the Continentals with a decisive 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.
  • Hannah Walpole '26 put Hamilton within a team point of winning the match with a gutsy win at No. 1 singles.
  • Mona Farah '29 clinched the match with a dominant performance at No. 5 singles.
 

Notes

  • Walpole and Priyanka Challapalli '27 picked up their 12th win as a doubles team. Walpole has 35 career doubles victories.
  • Farah and Samantha Rainero '26 improved to 3-0 in dual meets. Farah is 7-3 in doubles play and Rainero leads the team with eight doubles wins.
  • Lila Freeman '26 and Grace Qian '27 prevailed at No. 3 doubles. Freeman has a 6-2 doubles record.
  • Walpole won her 27th career singles match.
  • Farah and Cui have eight singles victories apiece this season.

"From open to close, our energy today was outstanding. We competed well and ran hard at every position. We made things difficult for them all day with our mentality and with our legs. I thought we did a wonderful job of supporting one another. This was a total team effort. We showed a lot of grit and a lot of heart. I am so proud of this group. They keep getting better. I am excited to watch this team grow."
