No. 2 men's hockey gets hat trick from Bulawka '26 in win at Conn. College

Reid '27 posted his fifth shutout this season in the 4-0 victory against the Camels

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Hamilton College's Max Bulawka '26 posted his first career hat trick and the Continentals cruised to a 4-0 NESCAC win against the Connecticut College Camels inside Conn. College's Dayton Arena on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 14.

Season Update

  • Nationally ranked No. 2 Hamilton (18-2-2, 14-1-1 NESCAC) has won three straight and 10 of its last 11 games. The Continentals outscored the Camels 10-0 in two wins this season.
  • Conn. College (9-12-1, 5-10-1) was coming off a 7-4 win against Amherst College on Feb. 13.

How It Happened

  • After a scoreless first period, Hamilton found its offensive groove in the second with the help of three power-play chances. Bulawka made it 1-0 at 6:31 on a great hustle play by Jacob Ierfino '27. The Continentals won a faceoff at center ice and Michael Gallary '28 dumped the puck into Hamilton's offensive zone. The goaltender skated behind his goal and slowed the puck down, but Ierfino fought off a defender and chipped it in front. Bulawka was waiting near the left post and stuffed the puck past Kellen Beauton.
  • The Continentals went up 2-0 during a 4-on-3 power play with 8:03 left in the second. Devon de Vries '27 passed the puck from the top of the left faceoff circle over to Bulawka for a wrist shot from the inner half of the right circle that found the back of the net.
  • Bulawka completed the natural hat trick with a power-play tally 3:17 into the third period. Devon de Vries passed the puck from above the right circle down to Jackson Krock '26 near the right post, and Krock quickly sent a short touch pass to Bulawka for a one-timer from the bottom of the circle.
  • Krock clinched the win at 5:14 of the third with Hamilton's third power-play goal of the day on its third power-play opportunity of the period. Ben Zimmerman '26 hammered a one-timer from the inner half of the left circle that Beauton stopped, but the puck popped out into the crease, and Krock was there to tap it into the wide-open net.
  • The Camels had two power plays in the last 11 minutes of the third but managed just one shot on goal.

Notes

  • Bulawka's three-goal performance was the first for the Continentals this season. He added an assist on the fourth goal for a career-best four points in a game. Bulawka doubled his season goal total from three to six.
  • Aksel Reid '27 made nine of his 18 saves in the third period for his fifth shutout this season. Reid leads the NESCAC with a 1.52 goals against average and is second with a .935 save percentage.
  • Krock had a goal and an assist for his fifth multi-point game this season. He has 78 points in 98 career games. Krock also blocked two shots.
  • Devon de Vries picked up two helpers and leads the conference with 20. He's third with 26 points.
  • Zimmerman extended his point streak to three games and collected his 59th career point.
  • Hamilton held a 15-3 advantage in shots on goal in the second period.
  • The Continentals were 3-for-7 on the power play and have 23 power-play goals. They are third in the NESCAC with a power-play percentage of 24.7 percent.
  • Hamilton has won the last five meetings with Conn. College.
