CLINTON, N.Y. – Bates College's Malina Young posted 16 digs and 10 kills in the Bobcats' four-set NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals inside Hamilton's Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 3.
Season Update
- The Continentals (5-5, 1-4 NESCAC) dropped their third straight match.
- Bates (10-2, 2-2) was coming off a tough five-set loss at Middlebury College on Oct. 2.
How It Happened (25-23, 18-25, 28-26, 25-20)
- Hamilton led by as many as five points midway through the first set and still held a 21-18 advantage. The Bobcats rallied to tie the score at 22-22, but Ayzlinn Trefren '28 put the Continentals back on top with a kill. Bates responded with three straight points and clinched the opening set.
- An early 6-0 run put the Bobcats up 7-1 in the second set. Hamilton came back with seven straight points and turned a 10-5 deficit into a 12-10 edge. The Continentals later put together five consecutive points and gave themselves some breathing room at 23-16. Four points later, an Elodie McGeiver '27 kill ended the set and tied the match at one set apiece.
- Hamilton surged in the third set with nine out of 10 points and went from trailing by four to a 16-12 lead. The Continentals had set points at 24-23, 25-24 and 26-25. Bates countered with three straight points and claimed the pivotal third set.
- The Bobcats jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the fourth set and Hamilton didn't get closer than four points the rest of the way. Bates enjoyed an 11-point cushion at 15-4 and 16-5, and Jaime Bartley-Cohen closed out the match with a kill.
Notes
- The Continentals served 17 aces, which was the second-highest total by a NESCAC team this season.
- Trefren finished with 13 kills, 11 digs and four aces. She has four double-doubles this fall and 14 in her Hamilton career.
- Grace Seaman '29 hammered a season-high 11 kills.
- McGeiver registered a season-best 10 kills.
- Rebecca McCloskey '30 had 18 digs and six aces – both season highs.
- Mia Jessen '28 ended up one dig shy of her career best with 23.
- Grace Jansen '29 topped the Continentals with 19 assists.
- Caitlin Allen '27 led the defense at the net with five blocks, which was her highest total of 2026.
- The Bobcats have won the last three meetings with Hamilton – all in four sets.
