Men’s soccer drops NESCAC match against No. 18 Tufts

Montesano Scheibe ’27 recorded nine saves for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – The Tufts University Jumbos scored twice in each half to record a 4-0 NESCAC win over the Hamilton College Continentals at Hamilton's Love Field on Sunday, Oct. 4.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (3-4-3, 1-4-2 NESCAC) was coming off a 1-0 win at home over Wesleyan on Saturday, Oct. 3.
  • No. 18 Tufts (6-1-3, 3-1-2), the defending national champion, extended its unbeaten streak to eight games.

How It Happened

  • The Jumbos scored twice in the opening 18 minutes to take control of the match. Xavier Canfin opened the scoring in the 15th minute, heading home a long throw in by Ben Brown from the right side of the six-yard box. Will Nicholas doubled the lead less than three minutes later with a low shot from the left side of the penalty area.
  • The Continentals earned a free kick in the 30th minute, and Oliver Mylon '29 placed a shot on goal that was saved by Tufts' Nikola Antic. Hamilton's Julian Antezana '30 fired a shot from the middle of the box in the 34th minute that was blocked by a Tufts defender, and Mylon forced Antic to make another save with just under six minutes left on a curling shot toward the top right corner of the goal.
  • Tufts Oscar Suarez made a run into the box and put a shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but Peter Montesano Scheibe '27 made a great kick save.
  • Tufts extended its lead in the 81st minute when Ethan Jett found the back of the net. Bijan Akhtarzandi-Das added the final goal in the 88th minute, tapping home a rebound attempt after Montesano Scheibe saved a shot by Suarez from the top of the box.

Notes

  • Mylon tied his season high with six shots, including a season-high two shots on goal.
  • Antezana recorded a season-high two shots for the Continentals.
  • Montesano Scheibe collected a career-high nine saves.
  • Nicholas tallied a team-high four shots for the Jumbos.
  • Antic finished with three saves for Tufts.
  • Tufts outshot Hamilton 21-14, but the Continentals held the advantage in corner kicks, 7-6.

Next Match

Hamilton returns to Love Field on Saturday, Oct. 10, when the Continentals host Amherst College (2-3-2, 0-3-2) in a NESCAC matchup at 2 p.m.
