No. 5 field hockey scores twice in third, edges Colby in season finale

Defender Clarke '28 notched the winning goal for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College scored two goals in the third quarter and the Continentals rallied for a 2-1 NESCAC win against the Colby College Mules at Hamilton's sunny and cool Goodfriend Field on Saturday, Oct. 24.

Season Update

  • The fifth-ranked Continentals (11-4, 6-4 NESCAC) ended their brief losing skid at two games after getting shut out by top 10 teams in those two contests. Hamilton is in fifth place in the conference standings and will be on the road for a NESCAC championship quarterfinal on Saturday, Oct. 31.
  • Colby (7-7, 2-7) was coming off a double overtime loss at Bowdoin College on Sunday, Oct. 18. The Mules are in ninth place in the conference standings with one game left.

How It Happened

  • The third quarter was huge for the Continentals as they had five of their 10 shots and half of their six penalty corners during those 15 minutes.
  • Hamilton tied the score with 9:43 left in the third on one of those corners. Isabelle Nahon '27 ended up with the ball, maneuvered around a defender to the center of the shooting circle and sent a backhand shot towards the right post. Alden Duserick '27 was set up there and redirected the ball high into the back of the cage.
  • The Continentals took the lead five minutes later. Eleanor Cooper '28 inserted the ball on another corner to Nahon at the top of the shooting circle. Nahon passed a few feet to her left to Morgan Clarke '28 for a low, hard one-timer that skipped just inside the left past and banged off the cage boards.
  • Scoring opportunities were hard to come by in the fourth quarter. Colby had its lone shot and corner a little less than five minutes into the fourth. Hamilton goalkeeper Kelly Janssen '28 knocked the high shot away with her glove hand.
  • The Mules removed their goalkeeper for an 11th field player with just over a minute remaining but didn't generate any offense.
  • Christina Sweeney gave Colby a 1-0 lead with 7:19 to go in the first quarter on a penalty corner. Hadley Swenson picked up the assist.

Notes

  • The Continentals have won five of the last six meetings with the Mules.
  • Clarke, who is a defender, scored her second goal this year and notched the second game-winner of her Hamilton career.
  • Duserick recorded her second goal of 2026 and the 10th of her career with the Continentals.
  • Nahon registered her second career multi-assist game. She's tied for third in NESCAC with eight helpers and is tied for fourth with 24 points.
  • Janssen stopped two shots and has allowed just three goals in the last five games.
  • Hamilton finished the regular season with an 11-4 overall record and 6-4 conference mark for the second straight year.

Next Game

The Continentals will be on the road against an opponent to be determined in the NESCAC championship quarterfinals on Saturday, Oct. 31.
