Men’s basketball downed by University of Saint Joseph in Connecticut

Keyhani ’26 scored a season-high 16 points for the Continentals

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) shot 52.5 percent from the field, including 9-of-17 from 3-point range, and the Blue Jays registered an 84-58 non-conference win over the Hamilton College Continentals at USJ's James A. Calhoun Gymnasium on Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 6.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (3-10 overall) dropped to 1-1 in 2026. The Continentals defeated SUNY Morrisville 71-58 at home on Jan. 3.
  • Saint Joseph (7-6), which competes in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, won back-to-back home games to begin 2026. The Blue Jays bested New York University 73-71 on Jan. 3.


How It Happened

  • Hamilton's Garret Keyhani '26 scored the first five points via an old-fashioned 3-point play with 18:36 left in the first half followed by two more made free throws at the 18:01 mark. USJ scored the next seven points and took its first lead with 14:22 remaining.
  • USJ's Friedrich Feldrappe scored 10 points during a 12-2 Blue Jays run that gave them a 30-19 advantage with 4:04 left.
  • USJ took its largest lead of the first half of 15 points at 38-23 with 2:17 remaining following a fast-break layup by Alijah Lovelace.
  • Hamilton's Matthew Rideout '27 converted a jumper and a layup in the final 1:20 and David Melson '29 added a fast-break layup that trimmed the Continentals' deficit to 11 points at 40-29 at the intermission.
  • The Continentals shot 5-of-9 from 3-point range in the second half but were unable to cut their deficit to single digits.
  • Keyhani scored in the paint on each of Hamilton's first three possessions in the second half, while USJ's Roel Figueroa converted two 3-pointers on consecutive possessions.
  • Rideout sank a 3-pointer with 14:37 left and cut the Continentals' deficit to 11 at 55-44, but they did not get any closer.
  • The Blue Jays went on a 7-0 burst and took a 62-44 lead with 10:55 remaining before Rob Cain '28 ended the run with a 3-pointer.
  • USJ outscored Hamilton 15-4 over the next 9:10 of game action and closed out the win.


Notes

  • Keyhani scored a season-high 16 points snd grabbed six rebounds, including five on the offensive glass.
  • Rideout recorded 14 points for his fourth consecutive game in double figures.
  • Jack Stowell '27 distributed a team-high four assists.
  • Will Holmes '27 collected a career-high three steals.
  • The Continentals blocked six shots and they are second in the NESCAC with 5.38 per game.
  • Feldrappe led all scorers with 20 points on 6-of-9 from the field, including 4-of-4 from 3-point range, and 4-for-4 at the line.
  • Figueroa, Lovelace and Lence Altenor scored 10 points each for the Blue Jays. Jakari Tertulien added nine assists, seven points, six rebounds and six steals.
  • USJ's 11 steals helped force Hamilton into 21 turnovers. The Blue Jays totaled 17 points off turnovers and scored 19 fast-break points.

Hamilton begins NESCAC play at home against Bates College (11-1) on Sunday, Jan. 11 at 1 p.m.
