CLINTON, N.Y. – Colby College's Dan Civello tallied 25 points and six assists in the Mules' 80-79 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals on Hamilton's Coach Tom Murphy Court inside Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 31.
Season Update
- Hamilton (5-15, 1-5 NESCAC) suffered its second one-point defeat in as many days. The Continentals fell to Bowdoin College by a score of 69-68 on Jan. 30.
- Colby (14-6, 2-4) bounced back from a 65-64 loss at Amherst College on Jan. 30.
How It Happened
- Colby held a 14-point lead for the third time in the second half at 65-51 with 11:56 remaining. The Continentals went on a 26-4 run over the next 7:25 of game action and built a 77-69 lead with 4:31 left. Hamilton knocked down six 3-pointers during the stretch with Rob Cain '28 and Garret Keyhani '26 making two apiece. Evan O'Reilly '29 added seven points during the extended run.
- Colby scored the next eight points with 3-pointers by Civello and Savion Stroud sandwiched around two free throws by Theo Pow, and tied the score at 77-77 with 2:08 left.
- Jack Stowell '27 sank two free throws with 53 seconds remaining and put Hamilton back in front. Colby's Max Poulton made one free throw with 46 seconds left and cut the Mules' deficit in half.
- Goaltending was called against Hamilton on a layup attempt by Colby's Matthew Lamy with three seconds remaining and the Mules went up by one. Following a timeout, Hamilton missed a jumper just before the final buzzer.
- The first half featured 12 lead changes and eight ties. Keyhani scored 15 points in the first half, while Max Poulton scored 11 of Colby's first 13 points.
- After two free throws by Nate Kwiecinski with 7:55 left gave the Mules a 24-20 advantage, Keyhani keyed a 9-0 run for a 29-24 Hamilton lead with 5:15 left. Civello responded with a 3-pointer and a layup that tied the score at 29-29 with 3:49 to go.
- A one-handed slam by Pow at the 1:46 mark gave Colby a 40-37 lead, but Keyhani responded with a layup at the other end. Colby scored the final five points of the half on a 3-pointer by Mason Dobie and a layup by Civello and took a 45-39 lead at the intermission.
- An 8-0 run by the Mules from 15:25 to 13:29 left in the second gave them their largest lead of 14 points for the first time at 61-47.
Notes
- Keyhani tied a career best with 26 points and registered his second consecutive 20-point game. He drained a career-high six 3-pointers and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
- O'Reilly scored in double figures for the second consecutive game with 14 points in a season-high 27 minutes played off the bench.
- Jalen Reese '27 tallied 13 points and three blocked shots. Reese ranks second in the NESCAC with 1.5 blocks per game.
- Cain also scored in double figures with 10 points.
- Stowell provided a career-high six assists, a career-high five steals and a career-high six made free throws.
- Hamilton shot 11-of-28 from 3-point range, including 7-of-14 in the second half. The 11 made 3s were the second-most the Continentals recorded in a game this season.
- Civello, who is second in the NESCAC with 17.4 points per game, shot 9-of-17 from the field, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range, and 4-for-4 at the line.
- Poulton and Pow scored 19 points apiece for the Mules.
- Colby shot 18-for-20 from the line, compared to 16-for-19 for Hamilton.
- The Continentals' 84.2% free throw percentage marked a new season high.
