Baseball wraps up NESCAC West Division slate with third loss to Amherst

Continentals finished with 10 hits and didn't allow any runs over the last five innings

CLINTON, N.Y. – Amherst College's Justin Orridge hit a grand slam in the top of the first inning and finished with six RBI in the Mammoths' 17-4 NESCAC West Division win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Hamilton's breezy and cool Loop Road Athletic Complex on Sunday, April 27.
 

Season Update

  • The Continentals (14-17, 2-10 NESCAC West) lost four of their last five games and missed out on the postseason.
  • Amherst (17-14, 9-3) completed the three-game series sweep. The Mammoths edged Hamilton 8-7 on April 25 and recorded a 27-1 win in seven innings on April 26.
 

How It Happened

  • Amherst scored all 17 of its runs in the first four innings and led 17-1 through four.
  • Hamilton scored three of its four runs in the eighth and ninth innings.
 

Notes

  • Gianni DiCerbo '27 singled twice and drove in a run for the Continentals. He was fifth in the NESCAC in batting average (.398), sixth in slugging percentage (.627) and third in on-base percentage (.514).
  • Michael Tallarida '26 had two singles for his seventh multi-hit game this season.
  • Jeremy Diaz '27 chipped in two singles and scored a run. It was Diaz's second multi-hit game this season.
  • Sam Humphries '28 hit his first collegiate double, walked and scored a run.
  • Chester Boynton '27, singled, walked, drove in a run and scored a run. Boynton was third in the conference in batting average (.402), fifth in on-base percentage (.511), tied for 10th with 41 hits and tied for seventh with 24 walks.
  • Greg Kopp '25 singled and drove in a run. Kopp finished his career in fourth place on the program's all-time list with 130 hits and tied for third with 88 RBI.
  • Henry Boehm '25 added a single and plated a run. Boehm, who had two at-bats coming into the season, was seventh in the NESCAC in batting average (.375) and tied for seventh in on-base percentage (.488).
  • Luke Beyer '27, Liam Rose '26, Henry Tyler '25, Mark Kovach '28 and Daniel Jirgal '26 combined to pitch 5.2 innings of shutout relief.
  • Jack Boyle went 3-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored for the Mammoths.
  • Yoon Chae (3-1) allowed one earned run on six hits in eight innings of work.
