No. 34 men's tennis extends win streak to seven, was perfect in Florida

Mendieta '28 and Aadamsoo '28 led the Continentals against Luther and Union

ORLANDO, Fla. – Hamilton College won both of its non-conference matches at USTA National Campus on Monday, March 24, and the Continentals finished an undefeated trip to Florida during spring break.
 

Season Update

  • Nationally ranked No. 34 Hamilton (9-2 overall) won all seven of its matches in Florida. Six of the results were by 6-1 or 7-0 decisions.
  • Luther College (6-4), which is a member of the American Rivers Conference, lost to a ranked team for the fourth time this season.
  • Union College (2-6), which is a member of the Liberty League, dropped its sixth straight match.
 

How It Happened

  • The Continentals won two out of three doubles matches against Luther and picked up the all-important team doubles point.
  • Hamilton won the three odd-numbered singles matches and edged the Norse 4-3.
  • Charlie Sternberg '27 may have saved the match for the Continentals by prevailing in three sets after he dropped the first one in a tiebreaker.
  • Hamilton had a much easier time in the afternoon against Union. After winning two doubles matches and clinching the doubles team point, the Continentals won five of six singles matches, including four in straight sets for a 6-1 final.
 

Notes

  • Lleyton Mendieta '28 extended his win streak to seven matches with two wins at No. 1 singles.
  • Eerik Villem Aadamsoo '28, who claimed victories at Nos. 3 and 4 singles, is keeping pace with Mendieta with six consecutive wins.
  • Mendieta and Aadamsoo have enjoyed great success as doubles partners as well. They have won seven straight and improved to 13-7 after victories at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles.
  • Connor Griff '25 was a winner at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles against Union. Griff hasn't lost this spring. He's 4-0 in dual matches, 17-4 this season and 72-24 for his career in singles play. In doubles he's also 4-0 in dual matches, 14-5 this season and 48-42 for his Hamilton career.
  • Antonio Chavez '28 won two more doubles matches – one with Griff and another with Coby Feldman '26. Chavez has a 10-1 doubles record in dual matches and is a remarkable 20-6 overall this season.
  • Anson Anderson '26 won his No. 3 singles match against Union.
  • Nicolas Gritz '25 is 4-0 in dual matches and 9-4 this season after his triumph at No. 6 singles.
  • Sternberg moved to 10-5 in singles this season with his big victory against Luther.
  • Feldman earned his first doubles win in dual matches this spring. He and Chavez were paired together for the first time.
