No. 34 men's tennis wins first two matches on Florida trip

Nationally ranked Continentals defeated Vassar and Hope and improved to 4-2

ORLANDO, Fla. – Hamilton College men's tennis players won 16 of 18 singles and doubles matches as the Continentals cruised to non-conference victories against Vassar College and Hope College at USTA National Campus on Wednesday, March 19.
 

Season Update

  • Nationally ranked No. 34 Hamilton (4-2 overall) posted a 6-1 win against Vassar and a 7-0 triumph against Hope. The matches were the first two of seven for the Continentals in Florida.
  • Vassar (3-6) lost for the fifth time in its last six matches.
  • Hope (2-10) extended its losing skid to six matches.
 

How It Happened

  • Hamilton got off to a great start against Vassar by sweeping the three doubles matches for the team point.
  • Most of the Continentals' five singles wins were competitive as two went to three sets and another went to a tiebreaker in the first set.
  • Hamilton won five of six singles matches in straight sets against Hope.
  • The Continentals' lone loss was at No. 1 doubles in a match that went to a tiebreaker.
 

Notes

  • Lleyton Mendieta '28 won twice at No. 1 singles and picked up two more victories in doubles.
  • Eerik Villem Aadamsoo '28 went 3-0 on the day. Aadamsoo was Mendieta's doubles partner and he won at No. 4 singles.
  • Anson Anderson '26 and Tarun Korwar '27 split their doubles matches and went 2-0 in singles. They are 4-2 in dual matches as a doubles team this spring. Anderson's doubles record is 41-27.
  • Korwar is 10-4 in singles this season and 28-11 in his Hamilton career. Anderson improved to 9-5 in singles this season.
  • Connor Griff '25 returned to the court for the first time this spring and was a winner at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles against Hope. Griff is 14-4 in singles this season and 69-24 for his career.
  • Griff reunited with his all-America doubles partner Antonio Chavez '28 and they moved to 11-5 this season.
  • Chavez, who also won a doubles match with Charlie Sternberg '27, leads the Continentals with a 15-6 doubles record.
  • Coby Feldman '26 won his eighth singles match, Sternberg recorded his seventh victory, and Nicolas Gritz '25 registered his 25th career win.
 

Next Match

Hamilton plays two more non-conference matches in Florida on Thursday, March 20. The Continentals take on St. Lawrence University at 8 a.m. and University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire at 2:30 p.m.
