MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- Hamilton College defenseman
Nick Kent '27 posted a goal and three assists in the Continentals' 5-2 NESCAC win against the Wesleyan University Cardinals inside Wesleyan's Spurrier-Snyder Rink on Friday, Jan. 31.
Season Update
- Nationally ranked No. 8 Hamilton (14-3-0, 10-1 NESCAC) stretched its win streak to eight games and completed an undefeated month of January (8-0).
- The Cardinals (4-10-3, 3-7-1) have one win at home in eight games this season.
How It Happened
- Wesleyan took a 2-0 lead with goals 62 seconds apart midway through the first period.
- The Continentals roared back with a goal late in the first, another in the second, and three in the third period.
- Hamilton started its comeback with 1:19 left in the first period. Kent's shot was blocked and a follow-up attempt by Max Bulawka '26 was saved before Luke Tchor '27 finally finished it off.
- The Continentals tied it with 5:50 remaining in the second period. Jackson Krock '26 won an offensive zone faceoff to Kent and he passed to James Philpott '25 for the goal.
- Devon de Vries '27 put Hamilton in the lead 2:12 into the third period. Liam Varmecky '28 had his shot blocked but de Vries controlled the loose puck and scored.
- Krock made it a two-goal cushion at 4:51 of the third as Tchor and Kent picked up the assists.
- The Cardinals came up empty on a power-play chance late in the period, and Kent rounded out the scoring on a power-play tally with 1:28 to go.
Notes
- The four points by Kent is a season high, and he leads the team with 15 assists.
- Tchor finished with a goal and two helpers and has seven points in the last two games. He leads the NESCAC with 13 goals.
- Krock had a goal and an assist and won 11-of-18 faceoffs. He has eight points in the last four games.
- Bulawka collected two assists and won 9-of-15 faceoffs. This was his second multi-assist game this season.
- Devon de Vries has at least one point in 10 of the last 12 contests.
- Philpott scored his first goal since Dec. 1 and his third this season.
- Justin Biraben '27 registered an assist and blocked three shots.
- Charlie Archer '25 -- making his first start in two weeks due to injury -- made nine of his 17 saves in the third period.
- The Continentals held a 34-19 shot advantage and won 36-of-58 faceoffs.
- Hamilton went 1-for-4 on the power play while Wesleyan was 1-for-3.
- The Continentals swept the season series against the Cardinals. Hamilton recorded a 6-3 win at home back on Nov. 23 and has won five straight meetings with Wesleyan.
- The Continentals are 14-0 when scoring three or more goals.
