No. 5 men's hockey still unbeaten after 2-2 tie with Nazareth at Sage Rink

Sordillo '27 scored the tying goal early in the third period for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Ryan Sordillo '27 scored the tying goal early in the third period and the Continentals and Nazareth University Golden Flyers played to a 2-2 draw in non-conference action inside Hamilton's Russell Sage Rink on Friday night, Dec. 12.

Season Update

  • The fifth-ranked Continentals (7-0-2 overall) went to a shootout for the second game in a row. Hamilton tied Middlebury College 0-0 (won the shootout 3-2) in the last game on Dec. 6.
  • Nazareth (7-4-1) went to overtime and a shootout for the first time this season. The Golden Flyers extended their unbeaten streak to five games.

How It Happened

  • While technically a tie, Hamilton won the shootout 2-1 in nail-biting fashion. Clarence Beltz '29 scored the go-ahead goal in the fourth round of the shootout, and Aksel Reid '27 followed it up with his third stop of the shootout.
  • The Continentals opened the scoring 9:31 into the first period. Vincent Gould '27 picked up the puck, drove it across the blue line and fired a powerful wrist shot into the top-left corner of the net.
  • Nazareth responded with an impressive second period. A giveaway by Hamilton a little less than five minutes in led to a breakaway chance that Mathieu Fehr did not waste as he fired a shot past Reid at 5:01 of the second.
  • Hamilton fell behind later in the period after another giveaway in the neutral zone. The puck fell to Antoine Lucier who blasted a shot into the back of the net with 4:15 left.
  • Sordillo tied the score 4:22 into the third period. Devon de Vries '27 passed to Lucas Constantine '27 who slid the puck across the slot and found Sordillo at the back post where he tapped it in.
  • In the shootout, Noah Leibl '27 scored on Hamilton's first penalty shot. Beltz and Reid sealed the shootout win with a goal and save, respectively, in the fourth round.
