Women’s soccer defeated by Middlebury in NESCAC quarterfinals

Cramer ’28 tied her career high with six shots for the Continentals

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Middlebury College scored twice in the first half and Livia Davidson recorded eight saves as the Panthers defeated the Hamilton College Continentals 2-0 in a 2025 NESCAC Women's Soccer Championship quarterfinal at Middlebury's Allan Dragone Track & Field Complex on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 1.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (8-5-3 overall), the No. 6 seed in the tournament, appeared in the NESCAC quarterfinals for the third consecutive season.
  • Third-seeded and nationally ranked No. 10 Middlebury (11-2-3) advanced to the NESCAC Championship semifinals where they will meet No. 2 seed Williams College.


How It Happened

  • Middlebury broke the scoreless tie in the 22nd minute. Gigi Day crashed toward the goal and finished off a rebound attempt after a shot by Roshann Purcell was saved by Nieve Tonna '26.
  • The Panthers doubled their lead with just under a minute remaining in the first half. Kjersti Moritz received a pass in the middle of Middlebury's attacking third, split two defenders and ripped a right-footed shot from just outside the 18-yard box that flew into the top-left corner of the goal.
  • The Panthers outshot the Continentals 16-4 during the first half.
  • The Continentals created a chance early in the second half. Haley Cramer '28 carried the ball in the middle of Hamilton's attacking third and drove a right-footed shot on goal that was saved by a diving Davidson.
  • With 38:30 left, Hamilton's Jess Yee '26 received the ball on the left side of the Middlebury penalty area, turned toward goal and took a right-footed shot that struck the left post.
  • Kate Giglio '28 took a corner kick from the left flag for the Continentals with just over 11 minutes left. The sophomore sent a cross to the center of the six-yard box where Cramer redirected a header that bounced off the crossbar.
  • Hamilton recorded 15 shots in the second half compared to four for the Panthers.
 

Notes

  • Cramer recorded a career-high six shots for the second consecutive match with three shots on goal.
  • Tonna recorded five saves for the Continentals, and has 257 in her career.
  • Evie McCreery '26 tied her career high with two shots on goal.
  • Hamilton held an 8-2 advantage on corner kicks, including 6-0 in the second half.
  • Davidson registered her sixth shutout of the season for the Panthers, and holds a league-leading .348 goals against average.
  • Carolina Espinosa added a team-high six shots for Middlebury.
