Women's hockey doubled up by Elmira in Friday matinee, 6-3

Continentals had won their previous three games

CLINTON, N.Y. – Elmira College's Anna Lugge scored two goals in the third period and the Soaring Eagles defeated the Hamilton College Continentals 6-3 in a non-conference game played inside Hamilton's Russell Sage Rink on Friday afternoon, Jan. 3.

Season Update

  • The Continentals (3-5-0 overall) went into Friday riding a three-game win streak and had allowed just one goal during that span.
  • Elmira (8-4-1), which is 6-1-1 in the New England Hockey Conference, is receiving votes in the USCHO.com Division III Top 15 poll.

How It Happened

  • The Soaring Eagles scored two goals in each period. Alayna Toole gave Elmira a 1-0 lead 6:46 into the first period and the Soaring Eagles never trailed.
  • Lydia Bullock '26 evened the score 13 seconds later. Bullock gained control of the puck off the ensuing faceoff at center ice and brought the puck into the attacking zone. She was knocked down along the right-side boards but got up and found the puck again. Bullock skated into the right faceoff circle and scored on a wrist shot.
  • Emily Lenzen put Elmira up for good on a goal with 8:05 left in the first, and McKenzie Schmidt made it 3-1 just 13 seconds into the second period.
  • Lilly Truchon '26 pulled Hamilton within a goal with 10:47 remaining in the second. Grace Crowley '26 won a faceoff in the Continentals' offensive zone as Truchon controlled the puck in the left circle. She chipped the puck forward to herself into the slot where she swept it into the back of the net.
  • Iliana Smith restored the two-goal lead for the Soaring Eagles with 2:13 to go in the period. Lugge gave Elmira its first three-goal advantage at 5-2 with 10:06 left in the third period.
  • Abby Weiss '25 cut Hamilton's deficit to 5-3 with 3:23 remaining. Katie Allen '26 met the puck near the end boards to the right of the goal, turned and whipped a pass that passed through the slot to Weiss at the right side of the left faceoff circle. Weiss' quick wrist shot snuck inside the left post.
  • The Continentals pulled their goaltender for a sixth skater with about two minutes to go, but Lugge scored from the red line into the empty net with 1:21 left.
