Volleyball wraps up the RIT Invitational with two matches

Continentals lost in five sets to Buffalo State and the hosts

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Hamilton College Continentals were edged in five sets in both 2024 Rochester Institute of Technology Invitational matches at Clark Memorial Gymnasium on Saturday, Sept. 7.
 
Buffalo State University had to capture the last two sets to emerge with the win (25-14, 19-25, 22-25, 25-21, 15-13) while RIT came all the way back after dropping the first two sets (21-25, 11-25, 25-20, 25-21, 15-9).
 

Season Update

  • Hamilton (0-4 overall) lost in five sets three times this weekend.
  • Buffalo State (1-3) is a member of the State University of New York Athletic Conference.
  • The Tigers (4-2) are members of the Liberty League.

How It Happened
  • The Bengals jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the fifth set and never trailed. A kill by Samantha Coakley ended the match.
  • The Continentals led 18-13 and 21-18 in the fourth set, but Buffalo State ran off the next seven points and Hamilton missed its chance to close out the Bengals.
 
Notes
  • Drew Stimson '25 tied a career high with 16 kills and had just one error in 24 attempts for a .625 hitting percentage.
  • Ayzlinn Trefren '28 contributed a dozen kills and 12 digs.
  • Elodie McGeiver '27 registered 11 kills, 11 digs, four aces and four blocks.
  • Pati Cerda '26 handed out 38 assists and Mia Jessen '28 led the Continentals with 16 digs.

How It Happened
  • RIT broke a 4-4 tie in the fifth set by putting together three consecutive points and led the rest of the way.
  • Hamilton was a few points away from sweeping the Tigers as the score was tied 19-19 in the third set, but RIT scored six of the next seven points.
 
Notes
  • McGeiver topped the team with 15 kills and leads the team with 49 this season.
  • Trefren collected 13 kills and 25 digs for her second double-double of the day.
  • Stimson hammered 11 kills and served four aces.
  • Allie Steel '28, who had one kill and five digs going into the match, exploded for 11 of each.
  • Cerda passed out 43 assists and Jessen chipped in 18 digs. Jessen leads the team with 62 this season.
 

Next Match

The Continentals host St. Lawrence University (1-4) for a non-conference match on Friday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m.
