BRUNSWICK, Maine – Bowdoin College's Robbie Long threw for 273 yards and three touchdowns in the Polar Bears' 28-21 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Bowdoin's Whittier Field on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 28.
Season Update
- Hamilton (0-3 NESCAC) scored three touchdowns after finding the end zone twice in its first two games.
- The Polar Bears (1-2) established a season high for points in a game.
How It Happened
- Bowdoin led 14-7 after one quarter, 21-14 at the half and 28-21 after three quarters.
- The Continentals scored on their first drive for the second straight week. Luke Kurzum '27 threw a 10-yard touchdown toss to Lucas Perez-Segnini '25 and Carmelo Velardo '27 added the extra point for a 7-0 lead 4:12 into the first quarter. A 47-yard run by Nate Wildman '27 put Hamilton in position to grab the early advantage.
- The Polar Bears drew even on the following drive as Long found Austin Hiscoe for a 27-yard touchdown with 8:04 left in the first.
- Bowdoin took the lead on the next play from scrimmage. Kurzum scrambled and was in danger of being sacked in the end zone for a safety. His desperation pass instead landed in the hands of the Polar Bears' Koy Price for a Bowdoin defensive touchdown with 7:49 remaining. The PAT by Jotham Casey made it 14-7.
- The Continentals tied the score at 14-14 following a 12-play, 76-yard drive that ate up nearly the entire first half of the second quarter. Perez-Segnini caught passes of 27, 28 and 30 yards, and quarterback Henry Rubey '26 ran it in from the five-yard line with 8:26 to go.
- The Polar Bears went back in front on a 37-yard touchdown catch by Slade Postemski with 1:54 left.
- Jack Hoag '27 put Hamilton in great field position at the start of the second half with a 44-yard kickoff return to the Continental 44. Rubey scampered 20 yards to the Bowdoin 10 on fourth-and-three, and found Chester Boynton '27 for an eight-yard touchdown with 10:13 remaining in the third quarter. Velardo's kick knotted the score again at 21-21.
- The Polar Bears marched right down the field on the ensuing possession, which ended on a 14-yard catch by Jed Hoggard for the go-ahead touchdown with 5:03 to go in the third.
- Hamilton ran two plays in Bowdoin territory in the Continentals' last four drives. Ferris Collins intercepted Rubey at the Polar Bear 21 early in the fourth quarter.
Notes
- Rubey was 20 of 33 passing for a career-high 179 yards. He also scored his first rushing touchdown at Hamilton.
- Perez-Segnini finished with seven catches for a career-best 110 yards and his first touchdown reception this season.
- Boynton caught nine passes for 67 yards and his second touchdown of 2024. He leads the NESCAC with 25 receptions and is fourth with 81.7 yards per game.
- Ian Fratarcangeli '25 led the Continentals with five solo tackles.
- Aidan Held '25 recorded Hamilton's first two sacks this year. Held has seven in his career with the Continentals.
- Tighe Hoey '25 averaged 45 yards on four punts including one that traveled 70 yards. Three of those punts landed inside the Bowdoin 20. He leads the conference with a 45.6-yard average that includes six punts of 50 or more yards.
- Dan Fiore led the Polar Bears' defense with a game-high nine stops, and Price had two sacks to go with the pick six.
