No. 24 field hockey shut out 3-0 at home by No. 7 Tufts

Janssen '28 made 14 saves in her first collegiate start for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – Tufts University's Andrea Delgiudice scored two goals and the Jumbos defeated the Hamilton College Continentals 3-0 in NESCAC action at Hamilton's Goodfriend Field on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 21.
 

Season Update

  • The 24th-ranked Continentals (3-3, 1-2 NESCAC), who were shut out for the first time this season, finished a four-game homestand.
  • Nationally ranked No. 7 Tufts (5-1, 3-1) won its fourth straight contest and recorded its third consecutive shutout.
 

How It Happened

  • After a scoreless first quarter, Delgiudice gave the Jumbos a 1-0 lead 1:35 into the second following a penalty corner.
  • Delgiudice made it a two-goal cushion on another corner 1:47 later.
  • Hamilton's best chance to score came with about 11 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Lydon Kelley '25 put two shots on goal, including one that forced Delgiudice to make a defensive save, following a corner.
  • Tufts capitalized on the penalty corner again with 9:45 left in the fourth when Hannah Biccard rounded out the scoring.
 

Notes

  • Kelly Janssen '28 made 14 saves including eight in the third quarter in her first collegiate start for the Continentals.
  • Morgan Clarke '28 registered Hamilton's first defensive save this season.
  • Lydia Eastburn stopped three shots and earned the shutout for the Jumbos.
  • Tufts held a 26-4 shot advantage and was awarded 18 corners to the Continentals' three.

Hamilton plays William Smith College (3-4 overall) on the road in non-conference play on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 6 p.m.
