Women's lacrosse defender Meghan Lane '24 (Wilton, Conn./Wilton HS) and baseball outfielder Jackson Sattinger '24 (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber HS) were honored as Hamilton College's top athletes from the Class of 2024 at the Jack B. Riffle Celebration for senior varsity athletes on Tuesday, May 14.

The Riffle Awards have been presented annually since 1987 to the top male and female athlete in Hamilton's senior class. Riffle graduated from Hamilton in 1950 and passed away on Dec. 13, 1986. A group of Riffle's friends and associates established a memorial fund in his name because of his deep interest in Hamilton athletics.

Lane is the first Riffle winner from the women's lacrosse team since 2017. She is a two-time Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association all-American and a three-time all-region selection, including the first team in 2022 and 2023. After Lane led the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) in ground balls and caused turnovers per game this season, she was voted the Defensive Player of the Year. The 2024 team captain was named first team all-NESCAC each of the last two seasons, and made the all-conference team all four years. On May 10 Lane was picked for the 2024 USA Lacrosse Magazine Division III All-America Team.

Sattinger is the first Riffle winner from the baseball team since 2015. He is a four-year starter and 2024 team captain. In 2023 he was a D3baseball.com first team all-region selection and an all-NESCAC team pick. Sattinger tied the program record for home runs in a season this year, and finished his career either tied for the lead or the outright leader in home runs, slugging percentage, runs batted in and on-base percentage with the Continentals. He also ended up in the team's top five for career batting average, triples and total bases. Sattinger helped lead the team to three postseason appearances including the final game of the 2022 NESCAC Championship Weekend. The baseball team set a program record in 2022 for most wins in a season.

Women's lacrosse and women's hockey player Abby Smith '24 (Newton, Mass./Phillips Exeter Academy [N.H.]) and football linebacker Cole Rivell '24 (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott HS) received the Jean-Marius Gelas Memorial Awards. The Gelas Awards are presented annually to a male and female senior student-athlete who has displayed outstanding development in sportsmanship, leadership, character and athletic ability during their college years.

Smith served as a captain for both teams during her senior year. She was voted first team all-NESCAC for women's hockey in 2024. Smith helped lead the women's hockey team to new heights in 2022-23 when the Continentals reached the 20-win mark in a season for the first time, advanced to their first conference final, received their first NCAA championship bid, made it to the national semifinals and were ranked fourth in the final USCHO.com Division III Top 15 poll. In 2023-24 Hamilton returned to the NESCAC championship final and the national quarterfinals, and was ranked eighth in Division III. Smith finished with 33 points in 37 career lacrosse games and ended up with 48 points in 81 career hockey contests. Ten of her 23 career goals were game-winners for the hockey team.

Rivell is the first Gelas winner from the football team since 2019. He was a defensive team captain in 2023 and was a two-time NESCAC fall all-academic team honoree. He ranked fourth in tackles per game and tied for first in forced fumbles in the conference his senior year. In three seasons Rivell was credited with 151 tackles and intercepted two passes as he played in all 27 games. He represented Hamilton on the 2024 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society Membership List.

Volleyball outside hitter Kate Carman '24 (New York, N.Y./Trinity School) and men's track and field athlete Peter Cuomo '24 (East Williston, N.Y./The Wheatley School) received the Milton H. Jannone Awards. The Jannone Awards have been presented annually since 2009 to a male and female senior athlete who exhibit outstanding athleticism, leadership and academic accomplishment.

Carman is the first volleyball athlete to receive the Jannone Award. She was an American Volleyball Coaches Association honorable mention all-American in 2023 after she made the all-region first team. The all-region honor was the third of Carman's Hamilton career. She was voted to the all-NESCAC team twice including the first team after her senior season. The 2022 team captain earned a spot on the conference's fall all-academic team three times. Carman tied the program record for most kills in a match with 29 on Sept. 16, 2023.

Cuomo is the first men's track and field athlete since 2017 honored with the Jannone. He earned all-region indoor honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for the long jump after the 2024 season. He took third place in the event at the 2024 All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference (AARTFC) indoor championships. Cuomo finished fifth in the long jump at the 2024 NESCAC championships and fourth in the triple jump at the 2023 conference meet. He made the NESCAC winter and spring all-academic teams three times apiece. Cuomo competes in the long jump and the 4x100-meter relay at the 2024 AARTFC Outdoor Championships on Wednesday, May 15.
