Women's lacrosse drops regular season finale against Ithaca, 17-8

Continentals prepare for a NESCAC championship quarterfinal at Colby on April 27

CLINTON, N.Y. – Ithaca College's Sydney Phillips scored six goals and the Bombers defeated the Hamilton College Continentals 17-8 in a non-conference game played at Hamilton's Withiam Field on Wednesday, April 24.
 

Season Update

  • The Continentals (7-7 overall) had scored 26 goals in winning their previous two games. Hamilton is receiving votes in the ILWomen/Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Division III Top 25 poll.
  • Nationally ranked No. 12 Ithaca (14-1) won its 11th straight contest. The Bombers are 9-0 in the Liberty League.
 

How It Happened

  • Ithaca scored three goals in the first two minutes and led 4-0 after one quarter.
  • Kat Showalter '26 pumped up the Continentals' bench with 11:01 left in the second quarter when she scored while Hamilton was down a player thanks to a yellow card.
  • The Bombers restored their four-goal advantage just nine seconds later.
  • The Continentals responded by scoring the next four goals. Sydney Klepper '26 tied the score at 5-5 with 2:40 remaining in the second after she received a pass from Aine Cleary '25.
  • Ithaca scored on two free-position shots in the last 90 seconds of the half and made it a three-goal run with 11:18 to go in the third quarter.
  • Hamilton didn't get closer than two goals the rest of the night.
  • The Bombers led 11-7 after three quarters and pulled away by scoring the first five goals of the fourth quarter for a 16-7 advantage with 7:28 left.
 

Notes

  • Eight players scored a goal for the Continentals, including three who notched their first this season.
  • Klepper finished with a goal and an assist for the fifth multi-point game of her career.
  • Showalter tallied her first career goal at Hamilton.
  • Julia Fornasar '24 scored her first this season and the 12th of her career.
  • Sarah Stonestreet '25 found the back of the net for the eighth game in a row and has 16 this season.
  • Maddigan Leifer '26 scored her 18th goal and scooped up three ground balls.
  • Abby Smith '24 chipped in her fifth goal in the last six games.
  • Alana King '24 registered her eighth goal this season and collected four ground balls.
  • Sarah Creamer '26, who was playing for the first time since March 16, scored her seventh goal in five games.
  • Cleary was credited with her team-leading ninth assist.
  • Carly West '25 picked up a career-high six ground balls.
  • Bailey Lillis '24 caused a career-best five turnovers.
  • Meghan Lane '24 recorded five ground balls, five draw controls and two caused turnovers. Lane leads the NESCAC in ground balls and caused turnovers per game.
  • Casey Fiore '24, Kaitlin Reed '24 and Eliza Schwarz '27 combined to make seven saves for the Continentals. Fiore had five of those stops in 24-plus minutes.
  • Maizy Veitch had three goals, three assists and three ground balls for Ithaca. Lily Cody contributed four points (3 goals, 1 assist), six draws, three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Caroline Wise led all players with eight draw controls and Kaitlyn Russell had a team-high four ground balls. Lexi Held turned away 13 shots in goal.
  • The Bombers won for the fourth time in the last five meetings with Hamilton, which was without goals and points leader Julia Lee '27 and starting defender Anna Zoccolillo '25.
 

Next Game

The Continentals travel to nationally ranked No. 10 Colby College (10-5) for a NESCAC championship quarterfinal on Saturday, April 27 at noon. Hamilton is the fifth seed for the championship while Colby is the fourth seed.
