ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Hamilton College's
Aine Cleary '25 led the offense with five points, including the 100
th of her career, and the Continentals coasted to a 16-6 non-conference win against the University of Rochester Yellowjackets at Rochester's Fauver Stadium on Wednesday, April 17.
Season Update
- Hamilton (6-6 overall), which is receiving votes for the ILWomen/Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Division III Top 25 poll, played its first unranked team since March 30.
- The Yellowjackets (8-6) have a 5-3 record in the Liberty League.
How It Happened
- The Continentals scored the first three goals and led the whole way. Julia Lee '27 had the first two, including one on a free-position shot, and Cleary passed to Sarah Stonestreet '25 for the 3-0 lead with 10:53 left in the first quarter.
- Hamilton had another three-goal run later in the first and took control with five in a row in the second quarter.
- The Continentals led 6-3 after one quarter and 12-4 at the half after Alana King '24 found the back of the net with 10 seconds remaining.
- A women-up goal by Cleary with 38 seconds to go in the third quarter gave Hamilton a 10-goal advantage at 15-5 and started the running clock.
- Maddigan Leifer '26 rounded out the scoring with 2:12 left in the fourth quarter.
Notes
- Cleary finished with four goals and an assist and has 101 career points with the Continentals. Her free-position goal with 1:55 remaining in the third quarter gave her the career milestone. Cleary also won three draw controls.
- Hamilton scored eight of its 16 goals on free-position shots.
- Lee tied a season high with three goals and leads the Continentals with 21.
- Stonestreet and Leifer ended up with two goals apiece.
- Leifer, who has scored in six straight games, boasted a career-high four caused turnovers.
- Stonestreet also has a six-game goal streak intact.
- Alex Orlando '25 scored her 11th goal this season, Marin Ciardiello '26 tallied her second and Abby Smith '24 her fourth. Smith has all six of her points in the last four games.
- King and Avery Trach '27 notched their seventh goals as Trach scored for the first time since March 20.
- Maddie Boger '25 recorded her second career assist and third point.
- Chloe Chiota '24 scooped up a career-best five ground balls and tied a career high with three caused turnovers.
- Meghan Lane '24 registered a game-high five draw controls and added four ground balls.
- Eliza Schwarz '27 started in goal and made three saves in the first half. Kaitlin Reed '24 stopped one shot in the third quarter and Casey Fiore '24 turned away three in the fourth quarter.
- Emily Schillinger paced Rochester with five goals and Lorelei King collected three ground balls. Ava Saffren and Nikki Cassara combined to make three saves.
- Hamilton has won the last 11 meetings with the Yellowjackets.
Next Game
The Continentals return to NESCAC play on Saturday, April 20 when they host Connecticut College (7-6, 2-6) at noon. Hamilton will honor its 10 seniors after the game.
