Softball swept in NESCAC doubleheader at Bowdoin

Continentals battled for nine innings in Game 2

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Hamilton College Continentals were swept by the Bowdoin College Polar Bears in a NESCAC twinbill at Bowdoin's Pickard Field on Sunday, April 14.  
 

Season Update

  • Hamilton (14-14, 7-7 NESCAC) has dropped five of its last seven games. 
  • Bowdoin (17-7, 4-4) extended its win streak to six games. The Polar Bears posted a five-inning, 9-1 victory in the opener and battled for a 6-5 win in nine innings in Game 2. 

Game 1

 
How It Happened
  • Hamilton took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on two singles, one walk and two wild pitches. 
  • Bowdoin busted open the scoring with five runs on three hits in the bottom half.
  • The Polar Bears added four more runs in the third on two doubles and a single. 
Notes
  • Alison Zorn '26 had one hit and scored Hamilton's lone run. 
  • Jordan Merklin '26 went 1-for-2 with a single and a walk. 
  • Charlie Quinn '25 and Alessandra Priante '24 both contributed one hit each. 
  • Penelope Fong-Picariello finished 2-for-2 with a team-best three runs batted in. She added two stolen bases for the Polar Bears.
  • Anika Ewert drove in two runs on two hits. 
  • Chloe Garcia plated a pair of runs on one hit. 
  • Sydney Lang, JK Bradley and Kyla Gary all finished with one hit apiece. 
  • Kathleen Hester collected her second win of the season, allowing just one run on four hits, walking two batters and striking out six. 

Game 2

 
How It Happened
  • Trailing 5-4 heading into the bottom half of the ninth, the Polar Bears produced two runs on two hits and two walks. 
  • The Continentals broke the 4-4 tie with one run in the top of the ninth on two hits and an error. Emma Tansky '25 ignited the rally with a lead-off double down the left field line. Natalie Beebe '24 reached first on an error, Alexis Mayer '26 loaded the bases on a single to left field and Gaby Guerra '27 worked the count for a walk that brought in a run. 
  • Hamilton held a 1-0 lead in second frame on two hits. Mayer knocked a triple to the right side and was hit in a sacrifice fly by Guerra. 
  • The Polar Bears responded with four runs in the bottom half on four hits and two walks. 
  • The Continentals took back one run in the third on three singles. Tansky hit a one-out infield single, stole second and advanced to third on a single to left field by Quinn. Beebe drove in Tansky on a single back to right field. 
  • Hamilton knotted the score at 4-4 with two runs on three hits. Beebe led with a single to right field and the Continentals had runners in scoring position after Mayer ripped a double to the left center gap. Alison Zorn '26 drove in Beebe on a fielder's choice and Guerra notched a one-run double to left field.  
Notes
  • Tansky had a career game-high four hits, including her eighth double of the season. She added a team-best two stolen bases. 
  • Mayer finished 3-for-4 with a single, a double, a triple and a walk. 
  • Guerra knocked in a team-best three runs on a double and one walk. 
  • Beebe batted in one run on two hits. 
  • Quinn and Hadley Rogers '26 both hit singles. 
  • The Polar Bears finished with nine hits and 10 walks. 
  • Fong-Picariello and Bradley both brought in two runs on two hits.
  • Gary contributed two hits for the Polar Bears. 
  • Ewert, Elise Siciliano and Liv Barrett contributed one hit each. 
  • Ellie Sullivan drew a team-best four walks. 
  • Maddie Current secured the win in the circle, giving up just one run on three hits, walking one and striking out five batters in 4.2 innings pitched. 

Next Game

Hamilton will return to Loop Road with another NESCAC doubleheader against Amherst College (5-16, 2-6) on Saturday, April 20 starting at noon.
