AMHERST, Mass. – Amherst College's Brendan Reilly scored six goals and the Mammoths posted a 17-5 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals on Amherst's Pratt Field at Lehrman Stadium on Saturday, March 9.
Season Update
- Hamilton (2-1, 1-1 NESCAC) had scored 43 goals in its first two games.
- The nationally ranked No. 15 Mammoths (2-1, 1-1) picked up their second consecutive win.
How It Happened
- The Mammoths scored twice in the opening two minutes of the first quarter.
- Christian Byrne '24 sliced Hamilton's deficit in half with 10:22 left in the first.
- Amherst scored the next seven goals for a 9-1 advantage with 6:58 remaining in the second quarter. Reilly led the Mammoths' surge with three of the seven goals.
- Sixty-seven seconds later, Frank Coyle '26 scored on a pass from Justin Pearl '25 with 5:51 to go.
- The Mammoths closed out the second quarter with a pair of goals for an 11-2 cushion.
- Hamilton countered with two man-up goals at the start of the third quarter. Pearl struck 33 seconds into the third on a pass from Will Heher '25, and Heher scored 31 ticks later off a feed from Byrne.
- Amherst ran off the next three goals and led 14-4 with 4:19 left in the third.
- Thomas Healy '26 scored the Continentals' last goal and Byrne picked up another assist with 2:29 remaining in the third quarter.
- The Mammoths tallied three goals and held the Continentals scoreless in the final quarter.
