Men's lacrosse dominates second half in 17-11 win over MIT

Pearl '25 put the Continentals in the lead for good late in the third quarter

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Thomas Healy '26 scored a season-high four goals and tied a career best with seven points in the Continentals' 17-11 non-conference win against the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Engineers at Hamilton's Withiam Field on Wednesday, March 27.

How It Happened

  • Hamilton, which had jumped out to a big lead in the first quarter and then briefly fell behind early in the third, went in front for good with five straight goals that spanned the end of the third quarter and start of the fourth.
  • Justin Pearl '25 pulled the Continentals within a goal at 9-8 on a long shot from straight away just inside the box with 7:35 left in the third.
  • Pearl tied the score with 57.7 seconds remaining in the quarter on a shot into the top-right corner from the left wing.
  • Hamilton turned to Pearl again for the goal that put the Continentals in the lead for good. He received a pass from behind the goal and stepped into a shot from the right wing that found the back of the net with 15.6 seconds to go in the third.
  • Hamilton kept applying the pressure early in the fourth quarter. Will Heher '25 scored 28 seconds into the fourth on a drive into the box and a bouncing shot from a few feet outside the crease.
  • Troy Pollock '25 made it 12-9 on his goal with 12:51 left. A pass from behind the goal found Pollock in front and he scored on a left-handed shot from about 10 yards out.
  • The Continentals scored three straight goals midway through the fourth for a 15-10 advantage.
  • Heher's man-up goal with 4:03 remaining restored Hamilton's five-goal cushion, and Milo Trabulsy '25 scored and accounted for the final margin with 1:46 to go.
  • The Engineers scored just twice in the last 25 minutes.
  • Five different players scored for the Continentals in the first quarter as they built a 6-1 lead after 15 minutes.
  • MIT dominated the second quarter and Hamilton was clinging to a 7-6 edge at the half.
  • The Engineers took their only lead in the first five minutes of the third quarter. Zach Bleil tied it 1:18 into the third and had the assist on Bryce Metalios' goal that put MIT ahead at 8-7. Ashton Axe added the Engineers' ninth goal with 10:11 left.
