CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's
Jack Eshleman '25 recorded a career-best 11 strikeouts in the opener and the Continentals breezed by the SUNY Canton Roos 11-1 on Friday, March 22 at Hamilton's Loop Road Athletic Complex.
Season Update
- Hamilton (6-4 overall) won its fourth straight game.
- Canton, a member of the North Atlantic Conference, dipped to 0-14 overall.
Game 1
How It Happened
- Hamilton took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Taylor Kaufman '26 led off with a single up the middle, stole second and was knocked in by Matt Kinne '25.
- The Continentals busted the game wide open with six runs on four hits and three errors in the second inning. Charlie O'Brien '24 was hit by a pitch, Jackson Johns '24 walked and Jack Griffin '24 ripped a deep shot that rolled to the right field fence for an inside-the-park home run. Greg Kopp '25 had the second walk of the inning and Kinne reached first on catcher's interference. Michael Tallarida '26 drove in both Kopp and Kinne on a two-out triple to right center and scored on a fielding error.
- In the bottom of the fourth, Kopp led off with a single to the right center gap and advanced to second on a passed ball. With one out, Tallarida knocked in Kopp on a sacrifice fly to center.
- The Continentals kept their foot on the gas and added three more runs on a trio of hits and one error in the bottom of the fifth. O'Brien singled to left field, advanced to third on a double down the right field line by Johns and scored on a grounder by Alfonso Rada '27. Johns was knocked in on a sacrifice fly to right field by Griffin. Kaufman loaded the bases with a walk and Rada scored on a single to left center by Kopp.
- Canton plated its lone run on one hit in the sixth.
Notes
- Kaufman went 2-for-3 with two singles and a walk. He stole a team-high three bases.
- Griffin knocked in a career-high four runs and tallied his third career home run.
- Tallarida plated three runs on two hits, including his fifth career triple.
- O'Brien finished 2-for-2 and scored twice.
- Kopp drove in one run on two hits and a walk.
- Rada singled and drove in a run.
- Johns scored twice and recorded his second double of the season.
- Eshleman earned his first win of the season allowing only one run on two hits and walking one.
- Edilberto Rosado and Frank Nieto (double) had the hits for Canton.
Game 2
Notes
- Game two was suspended in the top of the fifth due to snowy conditions as the umpires deemed the field unsafe to continue play. Hamilton was leading 4-2 and only needed two more outs without giving up two or more runs for it to be an official game and a win.
