KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Hamilton College scored five runs in the fifth inning against Swarthmore College and
Teagan Graham '25 tossed a shutout against Hood College as the Continentals swept a pair of non-conference games at Fortune Road Athletic Complex in Kissimmee, Fla., on Monday, March 11.
Season Update
- Hamilton improved to 4-0 this spring with a 7-4 win over Swarthmore in game one and a 2-0 triumph against Hood in the nightcap. The Continentals are off on Tuesday before playing Messiah University and McDaniel College at Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex in Leesburg, Fla., on Wednesday, March 13.

How It Happened
- Hamilton trailed 4-2 entering the fifth, when the Continentals produced five runs on two hits and an error. Ella Heftved '25 drew a leadoff walk, Emma Tansky '25 singled to third and both runners sat in scoring position after a double steal. Julia Hacker '27 scored Heftved on a fielder's choice to second base and Alexis Mayer '26 forced another walk to reload the bases. With just one out, Gaby Guerra '27 knocked it back to the pitcher and Tansky was able to score on a throwing error to the plate. Alison Zorn '26 brought Hacker home after working the count for the third walk of the inning.
- Swarthmore loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth with just one out but Tansky struck out a batter and forced a foul pop-up to end the inning.
- The Garnet had one final shot in the bottom of the seventh inning but Tansky dealt two more strikeouts.
- The Continentals put one run on the scoreboard in the top of the second on one hit. Mayer ripped a leadoff single to left field, stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball. With one out, Zorn drove Mayer home on a grounder to shortstop.
- Hamilton doubled its lead in the third on a trio of hits. Alessandra Priante '24 led off with a single to the gap in right-center and advanced to scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Jordan Merklin '26. Hacker knocked in Priante on a single up the middle.
- Swarthmore sliced its deficit in half in the bottom half on one hit.
- The Garnet took a 4-2 lead in the fourth on three hits and an error.

- Swarthmore (2-1) is a member of the Centennial Conference.
- Aubrey Purvis '27 earned the start in the circle, allowing one run on two hits and fanning three batters in three innings pitched.
- Tansky picked up her first win of the season striking out five batters in four innings. She led Hamilton at the plate with three of the team's eight hits.
- Hacker and Zorn drove in two runs apiece.
- Priante knocked in one run and collected two hits.
- Mayer scored two runs.
- Avery McClure led Swarthmore with three hits.
- Emily Bertrand tallied two hits for the Garnet.

How It Happened
- The Continentals struck early with one run in the bottom of the first on a pair of hits. Merklin tapped a hit to shallow right field and advanced to second on a ground ball. Mayer drew her second walk of the day and Merklin stole third on ball four. Priante stepped up to the plate and hit a two-out single to right field that scored Merklin.
- Hamilton added its second and final run in the sixth on one hit and an error. Tansky singled to third and stole second base. Mayer hit a deep fly ball to right field that tipped the fielder's glove and allowed Tansky to round the bases.
- The Continentals retired the side in order in the final inning with two ground-ball outs and a strikeout by Graham.
Notes
- Hood, a member of the MAC Commonwealth, dipped to 1-5 overall.
- Graham improved to 2-0 this season as she scattered four hits, struck out eight and didn't walk a batter in seven innings for her second career shutout.
- Priante, Merklin, Tansky, and Hadley Rogers '26 had one hit each.
