Mac Donovan '26 made 18 saves as the Continentals and the Middlebury College Panthers played to a 1-1 NESCAC tie inside Middlebury's Chip Kenyon Arena on Saturday, Feb. 17.
Season Update
- Despite two wins in its last nine games, seventh-ranked Hamilton (13-5-6, 6-5-5 NESCAC) tied for third place in the conference standings and secured the fourth seed for the NESCAC Championship. The Continentals host Trinity College for a quarterfinal at Russell Sage Rink on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 4:30 p.m.
- The eighth-ranked Panthers (13-6-4, 10-3-3) had won their previous three contests, including a 4-3 overtime victory against Hamilton on Friday night. Middlebury clinched the No. 2 seed for the NESCAC Championship and hosts Williams College for a quarterfinal on Feb. 24.
How It Happened
- Berghammer gave the Continentals a 1-0 lead with 8:11 left in the first period. The Panthers rang a shot off the post about seven minutes into the period and did it again with a little under six minutes remaining in the second.
- Molly MacQueen put Middlebury on the scoreboard with 56.7 seconds to go in the second period.
- After the teams combined for just seven shots on goal in the third period, they went all out in the five-minute, 3-on-3 overtime session. Hamilton put seven shots on goal and the Panthers had six shot attempts, including another off the post a few seconds after the opening faceoff. Four Middlebury shots were blocked by the Continentals. Donovan made one final stop as the horn sounded to end the game.
Notes
- Berghammer scored her first goal this season and the second of her Hamilton career. Both goals were scored against Middlebury.
- Donovan, who has a 1.61 goals against average and .925 save percentage in six starts, was making her third straight appearance in place of the injured Teagan Brown '27.
- The Continentals blocked 19 shots by the Panthers.
- Bobbi Roca '24 won 13 of 23 faceoffs for Hamilton.
- Sophia Will stopped 22 shots for Middlebury. Audrey Lazar and Cece Ziegler had the assists on the Panthers' goal.
- Middlebury was 0-for-3 on the power play while the Continentals were 0-for-1.
- Hamilton has allowed just five power-play goals in 62 chances this season.
- Exactly half of the Continentals' 24 games have gone to overtime.
