Men's hockey squeezes the Ephs on Citrus Bowl night, 5-1

Ierfino '27 scored two goals for the Continentals as they improved to 5-2-0

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Jacob Ierfino '27 scored two goals and the Continentals shook off a slow start in their 5-1 NESCAC win against the Williams College Ephs inside Hamilton's Russell Sage Rink on Friday night, Dec. 6.

Season Update

  • The Continentals (5-2-0, 3-1 NESCAC) are receiving votes in the USCHO.com Division III Top 15 poll.
  • Williams (3-4-0, 2-3) has been held to one or no goals in all four of its losses.

How It Happened

  • After a scoreless first period (although a shot by Ben Zimmerman '26 looked like it may have gone in the goal midway through the period), Hamilton broke the ice 5:15 into the second. Sebastian Hamming '28 took a wrist shot from the point that deflected off the sticks of two Ephs before it was stopped by the goaltender. Two players crashed into the netminder at the top of the crease and the puck squirted free to Jackson Krock '26 in the low slot. Krock's backhand shot somehow avoided the goaltender and a defender, both of whom were flat on the ice in the crease.
  • The Continentals made it 2-0 just 1:34 later. A pass by John Wojciechowski '28 from the blue line near the Hamilton bench found Devon de Vries '27 uncovered in the middle of the left faceoff circle. He maneuvered across the low slot and around the lunging goaltender before de Vries lifted a shot over the goaltender and a defender high into the back of the net from below the right faceoff circle.
  • Ierfino gave the Continentals a three-goal advantage 2:28 into the third period. Carson Hall '26 won a faceoff in the right circle in Hamilton's attacking zone to Ierfino along the boards. He skated along the goal line, headed straight towards the goal and scored on a shot from close range.
  • Ierfino increased the lead to 4-0 at 7:42 of the third. Vincent Gould '27 skated behind the net and stopped below the right faceoff circle. Gould snapped a pass through the crease to Ierfino positioned near the right post where he stuffed the puck into the back of the net.
  • Williams avoided the shutout with 8:42 left on a goal by Ziv Deener-Chodirker. Conner Fitzpatrick and Brady Welsch picked up the assists.
  • The Continentals restored their four-goal cushion with 2:46 remaining. Hamming forced a turnover at his defensive blue line and Gould collected the loose puck. He skated into Hamilton's attacking zone and snapped off a wrist shot from the high slot that beat the goaltender on the blocker side.
