CLINTON, N.Y. – SUNY Cortland's Kayla Campbell registered 17 points and the Red Dragons posted a 65-56 non-conference win against the Hamilton College Continentals on Hamilton's Coach Tom Murphy Court inside Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Saturday, Dec. 14.
Season Update
- Hamilton (7-2 overall) had won its previous five games.
- Cortland (6-1), which is 2-0 in the State University of New York Athletic Conference, won its sixth straight game.
How It Happened
- With a 10-6 lead, Cortland went on a 14-0 run for a 24-6 advantage with two minutes remaining in the opening quarter.
- Hamilton started off hot in the second stanza with an 8-0 spurt that narrowed the Red Dragons' cushion to seven points at 25-18 with 5:35 to go.
- Trailing 29-20, the Continentals pulled within four points with 2:22 left after free throws by Kendall Harris '27, Taylor Lambo '26 and Erica Hills '28. Hamilton went 7-for-9 at the line during the quarter.
- The Red Dragons hit back-to-back layups for a 35-27 edge at the break.
- Cortland's lead fluctuated between seven and 15 points in the third quarter, and the Red Dragons went into the final 10 minutes with a 49-38 advantage.
- Hamilton rallied with a 10-2 run and came within three points at 51-48 with 4:51 left in the fourth. Althea Hill '26 opened the streak with a layup and Lambo closed it out with two consecutive baskets in the paint.
- Kaeli McAnally gave the Red Dragons a 62-54 lead on a 3-pointer from the left corner with 58 seconds remaining.
- Bella Zingoni converted two free throws with 19 seconds to go for the final margin.
Notes
- Lambo led all players with 21 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double with nine.
- Harris finished with 15 points, four assists, four steals and two blocks. She is third in the NESCAC with 17.0 points per game.
- Hills collected seven rebounds – all on the defensive end.
- Annabelle Semeter '28 had two of Hamilton's six blocked shots.
- Campbell added seven rebounds and four assists for the Red Dragons.
- Brooke Tillotson recorded 14 points and handed out three assists.
- McAnally notched 11 points, four assists and three steals.
- Joleen Lusk gathered a game-high 10 rebounds.
- Cortland shot 35.9 percent (23-64) from the floor, including 6-of-18 from the 3-point line, and went 13-for-17 at the line.
- The Continentals finished 40.4 percent (21-52) from the field and 72.2 percent (13-18) at the charity stripe.
- Hamilton and Cortland collected 38 rebounds each.
- The Red Dragons had 11 turnovers to Hamilton's 20.
