Men's hockey edged 2-1 by Fredonia at Skidmore Invitational

Gotovets '25 scored his 20th career goal in the first period for the Continentals

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – SUNY Fredonia's Jameson Kaine made 14 of his 31 saves in the third period and the Blue Devils edged the Hamilton College Continentals 2-1 at the 2024 Skidmore College Thanksgiving Invitational inside Weibel Arena on Saturday, Nov. 30.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (3-2-0 overall) has lost by a goal in its last two games after the Continentals opened the season with three straight wins.
  • Fredonia (3-7-0), which has a 1-3 record in the SUNYAC, had dropped its previous three contests.

How It Happened

  • Hamilton scored first with 6:49 left in the first period. Max Bulawka '26 forced a turnover behind the Blue Devils' net and the puck squirted out to the right side to Justin Biraben '27. Biraben passed across the slot to Grisha Gotovets '25 positioned near the bottom of the left faceoff circle for a one-timer from one knee.
  • The Continentals were whistled for just one penalty but Fredonia made them pay with a power-play goal with 4:14 remaining in the second period. Ryan Bailey had the goal and Luke Morris and Antoine St. Onge had the assists.
  • Riley See picked up the game-winner just 22 seconds into the third period. St. Onge and Bailey were credited with the assists.
  • Hamilton had its lone power-play opportunity with 6:50 to go in the third and put four shots on goal during its two minutes with the advantage.
  • The Continentals pulled their goaltender for a sixth skater with a little more than minutes left and recorded 10 shots the rest of the way, but only two were on goal. The Blue Devils blocked five of those attempts.

Notes

  • Gotovets recorded his 20th career goal and 51st point.
  • Bulawka was 6-of-9 on faceoffs and has won 54 percent of them this season.
  • Aksel Reid '27 made 11 of his 21 stops in the second period.
  • Hamilton held a 32-23 shot advantage.
  • Fredonia blocked 21 shots by the Continentals.
  • This was the first meeting between the two teams since the 1998-99 season and the fourth overall. Both teams have won twice.
