Volleyball sweeps SUNY Morrisville in season opener

McClintic ‘24 tallies 10 kills in three-set victory for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Summer McClintic '24 recorded 10 kills and a career-best four blocks as the Continentals defeated SUNY Morrisville in three sets (25-22, 25-15, 25-20) on Tuesday evening in Hamilton's Margaret Bundy Scott Field House. 
 
Season Update
Hamilton was playing its season opener while the Mustangs, who are members of the North Atlantic Conference, dropped to 2-3 overall. 
 
How It Happened
  • Melissa Morelli '24 boosted the Continentals to a 9-3 lead in the first set on five consecutive serves. 
  • Trailing by six, the Mustangs used a kill and two Hamilton errors and only trailed 14-12. 
  • Morrisville claimed its first lead of the match at 17-16 with a four-point rally. 
  • The Continentals took a 22-21 edge after Rylee Bergeron '26, Kate Carman '24 and Chiara Morley-McLaughlin '24 recorded kills. 
  • Tied at 22-22, Carman gave Hamilton the set win on a pair of kills. 
  • The second set featured five ties before the Continentals broke away with a six-point spurt for an 11-6 advantage. 
  • Hamilton used a 5-0 run and grabbed a commanding 21-10 lead. 
  • The Continentals rallied and posted four straight points for a 10-8 lead in the third set. 
  • Hamilton was still clinging to a two-point lead when Kendall Scholz '27 sparked a five-point run with two aces, and the Continentals owned a commanding 21-14 advantage. 
  • Hamilton secured its final four points on kills by Scholz, Elodie McGeiver '27 and McClintic. 
Notes
  • McClintic boasted a .600 hitting percentage in 15 attack attempts and registered seven digs.
  • McGeiver chipped in eight kills in her collegiate debut. 
  • Carman boasted seven kills and six digs.  
  • Scholz served a team-best three aces.
  • Morelli led Hamilton with 17 assists. 
  • Pati Cerda '26 recorded a career-best 12 assists. 
  • Drew Stimson '25 registered three blocks and four kills. 
  • Bergeron led the Continentals with 13 digs. 
  • The Continentals finished with nine aces and 38 total kills for a .258 hitting percentage. 
  • Keelin Baker led Morrisville with 11 kills.
