Men’s soccer bounces back with shutout win at Wesleyan

Peplowski ’25 dished out his third assist of the season for the Continentals

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Hamilton College's Jude Rouhana '25 and Aedan Burke '26 connected for goals and the Continentals blanked the Wesleyan University Cardinals 2-0 in NESCAC action on Sunday afternoon at Wesleyan's Jackson Field.

Season Update
  • Hamilton improved to 2-3-2 overall and 1-3-1 in the conference with its first victory away from home.
  • Wesleyan (3-1-2, 0-1-2 NESCAC) was dealt its first home loss since Oct. 1, 2022.
How It Happened
  • The Continentals made an early statement with a goal by Rouhana less than two minutes into the opening half. The Cardinals were attempting to clear the ball but it caromed off a Hamilton player and Rouhana claimed possession at the top of the box. He curved a shot around two defenders into the top-right corner for a 1-0 lead.
  • Just 43 ticks into the second half, the Continentals doubled their lead on a goal by Burke. Hamilton was working the ball through the Cardinals' attack zone and Luke Peplowski '25 sent a gem deep downfield. Burke beat his defender and chipped a high shot that deflected off the hands of Wesleyan's Mathis Blanc into the upper-left 90.
  • The Cardinals almost struck in the 89th minute but Kai Haesslein '24 made an incredible save with a one-handed punch that knocked it over the crossbar.
  • Hamilton held an 8-7 edge in shots and had three corner kicks to Wesleyan's two.
Notes
  • Head Coach Perry Nizzi picked up his 199th career win with the Continentals.
  • Rouhana and Burke recorded their first career goals.
  • Peplowski collected his 12th career assist and leads Hamilton with three on the season.
  • Haesslein tallied three saves in his fifth career shutout with the Continentals.
Next Match
The Continentals make the short drive to Utica University (2-3-2 overall) for a non-conference contest on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 4:30 p.m.
