Men’s soccer picks up first win with 5-1 defeat of SUNY Poly

Ehrenfreund ’25 recorded one goal and a pair of assists for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – Four Hamilton College players scored and the Continentals posted their first win with a 5-1 non-conference decision over the SUNY Polytechnic Wildcats at Hamilton's Love Field on Tuesday, Sept. 19.

Season Update
Hamilton improved to 1-2-2 on the season. SUNY Poly, which is a member of the North Atlantic Conference, moved to 3-4-0 overall.

How It Happened
  • Ross Eagle '26 put the Continentals on the board 10:23 into the match. Luke Peplowski '25 danced around a defender in the box and sent a centering pass to Eagle, who settled the shot into the lower-left corner.
  • Less than 17 minutes later, Luke Ehrenfreund '25 extended Hamilton's lead on a free kick taken right outside the top-left corner of the box.
  • SUNY Poly slashed its deficit in half on a goal by Payton Bennett with 5:36 left in the half.
  • The Continentals wasted no time in the second half as they scored their third goal less than six minutes in. Ehrenfreund took on a defender and sent a beautiful cross to the front door step. With plenty of bodies in the box, Eagle sprinted and dove toward the ball, making contact with his chest and ricocheting the ball off the crossbar for a 3-1 cushion.
  • The Continentals' fourth goal came from midfielder Ravi Travers '24, who rocketed a long shot from the middle of the attack zone in the 61st minute. Travers' shot came in with force and proved to be too much for the Wildcats' Tyer Barth as he lost control of the ball before it crossed the goal line.
  • Hamilton added its final goal with 20:05 remaining. Ehrenfreund sent a corner kick to the back post where Patrick Ferrare '27 slipped a shot into the left corner.
  • Hamilton owned a 25-9 shot advantage with 13 shots on goal.
  • The Continentals held a 7-2 edge on corner kicks.
Notes
  • Hamilton leads the all-time series 32-1-0.
  • Eagle posted his first multi-goal game and he leads Hamilton in points with five.
  • Ehrenfreund tallied his first goal of the season and fourth of his career. He dished out his fifth and sixth career assists.
  • Travers collected his first goal of the season and the second of his career.
  • Ferrare scored his first collegiate goal for the Continentals.
  • Peplowski recorded his second assist of the season.
  • Kai Haesslein '24 made three saves in his 82-plus minutes of action before Finn Wheeler '27 came on in relief late in the second half.
  • Barth finished with eight saves for the Wildcats.
