Volleyball doesn't drop a set in two non-conference victories

Continentals move to 3-1 after defeating Oswego State and St. Lawrence

CANTON, N.Y. – The Hamilton College Continentals swept the Oswego State Lakers and the St. Lawrence University Saints in three sets in non-conference matches played at St. Lawrence's Burkman Gymnasium on Saturday, Sept. 9.
 

Season Update

  • Hamilton's overall record improved to 3-1.
  • The Saints, who are members of the Liberty League, and Oswego, which plays in the SUNYAC, dipped to 1-4.
 

How it Happened (Oswego)

  • After seven ties and four lead changes early in the first set, the Continentals took a 19-14 lead with an 8-3 run on five kills and two aces. Hamilton led by at least four points the rest of the set on their way to a 25-18 decision.
  • Neither team led by more than four points midway through the second set as the Continentals were clinging to a 15-14 advantage. Hamilton scored the next 10 points and took the second set, 25-14. Summer McClintic '24 served four aces during the run.
  • The Lakers scored the first two points in the third set, but the Continentals ran off the next five and maintained the lead for good on their way to a 25-16 victory.
 

Notes (Oswego)

  • Drew Stimson '25 hammered 12 kills – one off her career high – and had just two attack errors in 17 attempts.
  • Kate Carman '24 smacked 10 kills.
  • McClintic chipped in nine kills and a career-best five aces.
  • Melissa Morelli '24 handed out 27 assists.
  • Rylee Bergeron '26 led Hamilton with nine digs.
  • The Continentals enjoyed a 40-17 advantage in kills and served 13 aces to Oswego's five.
 

How It Happened (St. Lawrence)

  • Hamilton went on a 7-3 run midway through the first set and turned a 7-7 tie into a 14-10 lead. The Continentals went on to take the set, 25-21.
  • Hamilton trailed 15-11 at one point in the second set, but rallied for the 26-24 victory. Facing a St. Lawrence set point, the Continentals responded with kills by Caitlin Allen '27 and McClintic. A Saints attack error ended the set.
  • Hamilton blitzed St. Lawrence early in the third set with a 7-0 spurt that gave the Continentals a commanding 14-5 advantage. The Saints came all the way back and tied the score at 23-23. Kills by Stimson and Carman finally secured the match for Hamilton.
 

Notes (St. Lawrence)

  • McClintic recorded her first double-double this season with 11 kills and 10 digs.
  • Carman smashed 11 kills and led the team with 12 points.
  • Allen contributed seven kills and a team-high three blocks.
  • Morelli passed out 21 assists, served two aces and came up with 10 digs.
  • Pati Cerda '26 registered her first double-double with 12 assists and 10 digs.
  • Bergeron, who is averaging more than four digs per set, topped the Continentals with 14.
  • Vivian Zymeck had 10 kills and Katrina Henrich led all players with 16 digs for St. Lawrence.
  • Hamilton owned a 45-28 advantage in kills and a 67-44 lead in digs.
 

Next Match

The Continentals open the NESCAC portion of their schedule against Amherst College (2-2 overall) at Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Friday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m.
