No. 10 women's rowing fourth in varsity 8 grand final at WPI

Continentals were runners-up in the second varsity 8 grand final

WORCESTER, Mass. – Hamilton College finished in fourth place in the grand final of the women's varsity eight at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute/Clark University Invitational on Lake Quinsigamond on Saturday, April 8.

Nationally ranked No. 10 Hamilton posted a time of 7:02.3, which was 6.5 seconds behind race winner and sixth-ranked WPI. No. 11 Smith College was runner-up in 6:57.6 and No. 8 Wesleyan University came in third at 7:00. No. 5 Clark landed in fifth place with a time of 7:08.86. The Continentals finished second in their heat earlier that morning in 6:51.31 -- less than a second behind Clark.

Hamilton took second place in the second varsity eight grand final with a time of 7:13.55, trailing only Wesleyan's time of 7:04.1. The Continentals won their heat earlier in the day by nearly eight seconds over Clark and Connecticut College.

In the third varsity eight, Hamilton won its three-boat race in 7:23.7, which was almost 40 seconds ahead of Conn. College and Clark.

"The first race of the season gives us an opportunity to measure our speed and inform us of the areas where we are proficient and areas to improve," Head Coach James Lister said. "Out of the gate, the women's team had solid races in all three eights. The speed shown by the boats certainly points to the depth of the program and the work put in this year. It may be the deepest squad in recent history. We look forward to building on the lessons gained this weekend when we return to Worcester to see more teams."

The Continentals head back to Lake Quinsigamond for another regatta hosted by WPI on Sunday, April 16.
