Softball splits NESCAC twinbill at Colby, Beebe ’24 wins again

Junior pitcher won fifth straight start including four against NESCAC opponents

WATERVILLE, Maine – Hamilton College's Natalie Beebe '24 struck out five and plated a team-best three runs in Game 1 and the Continentals split a NESCAC doubleheader with the Colby College Mules at the Colby Softball Field on Friday afternoon. 
 
Season Update
  • Hamilton (12-8, 4-2 NESCAC) posted a 7-1 statement win in the opener. 
  • Colby moved to 10-6 overall and 1-1 in the conference after a 3-2 triumph in the nightcap.
Game 1
 
How It Happened
  • After three scoreless innings, Hamilton took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on an infield error and a walk. 
  • The Mules countered with one run on a walk and a triple in the bottom half of the inning. 
  • The Continentals took the lead for good with three runs on three hits in the sixth inning. Emma Tansky '25 led off with a single, advanced to second on a passed ball and went to third on a one-out single by Charlie Quinn '25. Sofia Santana '26 pinch ran for Quinn and stole second. Ella Heftved '25 nailed a double that plated Tansky and Santana. Alison Zorn '26 knocked in Heftved on a fielder's choice with the bases loaded. 
  • Hamilton kept the bats hot with three more runs on a trio of hits in the final frame. Katlynn McGivney '23 and Tansky opened the inning with walks and advanced into scoring position on a double steal. Beebe batted both in with a double, Quinn singled and Heftved loaded the bases with another base hit. Jordan Merklin '26 drove Beebe home on an error by the second baseman. 
  • Beebe retired the side in order in the bottom half. 
Notes
  • Beebe is third on the team with 14 runs batted in. 
  • Heftved went 2-for-4 at the plate and plated two Continentals. 
  • Quinn tallied two hits and Priante singled. 
  • McGivney stole two bases and leads Hamilton with nine. 
  • Beebe earned her seventh win in the circle as she allowed one run on five hits and a walk in a complete game effort. She lowered her ERA to 3.31.
  • Carissa Cassidy led the Mules with three hits, two of which were triples, and a run batted in.

How It Happened
  • The Mules wasted no time in jumping out to a 2-0 lead on a two-run double by Chloe Wilcox in the first inning. 
  • McGivney cut Hamilton's deficit in half in the third with a two-out double that scored Merklin.
  • The Continentals knotted the score in the fifth. Merklin smacked a one-out triple and Zorn drove her in with a double. 
  • Hamilton threatened in the sixth by putting two runners on via walks, but the inning ended when one of the Continentals was thrown out at home plate after a pitch that got away from the catcher.
  • Colby plated the go-ahead run in the bottom half of the sixth on a leadoff double, a wild pitch and RBI groundout. 
Notes 
  • All three Hamilton hits went for extra bases. 
  • McGivney leads the team with a .492 batting average and 26 runs scored.
  • Tansky allowed two earned runs and struck out four in five innings pitched. 
  • Colby's Wilcox went 3-for-4 at the plate and drove in a pair of runs. 
  • Brenna Forbes and Courtney Schumacher tallied two hits apiece. 
  • Sam Ahlholm allowed one earned run on three hits and struck out three in five innings for the Mules. 
  • Abby Orso earned the win with two innings of hitless relief.

  • Hamilton continues its road trip with another NESCAC doubleheader at nationally ranked No. 10 Tufts University (14-1 overall) on Sunday, April 2 starting at noon.
