Men's lacrosse breezes to another Contineer Cup win over Utica

The Continentals scored 10 straight goals in the first half and finished with 20

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Thomas Healy '26 scored four goals in his second collegiate appearance and the Continentals cruised to a 20-5 non-conference win against the Utica University Pioneers at Hamilton's Withiam Field on a breezy and frigid Tuesday evening.
 
Season Update
The Continentals evened their overall record at 1-1. Utica, which is a member of the Empire 8 Conference, dropped to 1-3 overall.
 
How It Happened
  • Sam Serrano gave the Pioneers a 1-0 lead 1:21 into the first quarter but it was all Hamilton after that.
  • Healy tied the score 47 seconds later and started a run of 10 straight goals by the Continentals.
  • Healy passed to Rowan Brumbaugh '23 for the goal that put Hamilton up for good with 11:11 left in the first.
  • Brumbaugh scored all three of his goals and Torben Wunderle '23 posted all four of his points (three goals, one assist) during the run.
  • Tim Sommer '23 added two goals and Matt Mirkovic '23 scored the other for the Continentals in the opening 15 minutes.
  • Hamilton led 8-1 after one quarter and Brumbaugh's third goal made it 10-1 with 8:30 remaining in the second.
  • Utica scored three goals in the last six minutes of the half and pulled within 10-4 at the break.
  • The Continentals put the game away by running off the first seven goals in the second half. Healy started the spurt with three consecutive goals.
 
Notes
  • Healy led Hamilton's offense with five points.
  • Brumbaugh and Wunderle chipped in three goals and one assist apiece. Wundele also caused three turnovers.
  • Nathanial Field '24 registered a goal and two helpers.
  • Jesse Delinsky '26 was credited with two assists.
  • Seamus Fagan '23, Jack Fried '25 and Ben Keppler '26 combined to make six saves for the Continentals.
  • Michael Scoleri '24 picked up four ground balls and won 8 of 11 faceoffs.
  • Carter Hampson '24 tied Scoleri for the team lead in ground balls with four.
  • Alec Zenker '23 won all 10 of his faceoffs for Hamilton.
  • Milo Trabulsy '25, David Petz '26, Ben Ryan '26, Tighe Hoey '25, Jack Jennings '23 and Mac Behrhorst '23 scored the first goal of their careers for the Continentals.
  • Serrano paced the Pioneers' offense with two goals and collected three ground balls.
  • Ethan Brown registered four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
  • Jake Bowen stopped 11 shots.
  • Hamilton held at 56-19 shot advantage and had 51 ground balls to Utica's 21. The Continentals won 22 of 29 faceoffs and scored on 3 of 5 extra-man opportunities.
  • Twelve players scored for Hamilton, which racked up 20 goals in a game for the first time since late in the 2010 season.
  • The Continentals retained the Contineer Cup and improved to 22-1 all-time against the Pioneers.
