Anderson ’23 led the Continentals with 16 points in his last game for the Buff and Blue

BALTIMORE – Johns Hopkins University's Carson James scored 26 points and the nationally ranked No. 11 Blue Jays posted an 81-71 win against the Hamilton College Continentals in a 2023 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship second round contest at Johns Hopkins' Goldfarb Gymnasium on Saturday evening.

How It Happened
  • Hamilton's Hank Morgan '25 forced the last tie at 35-35 as he buried a 3-pointer with 17:51 left in the second half.
  • The Blue Jays went on a 10-1 run during the next two minutes and led the rest of the way.
  • Johns Hopkins was 3 of 3 from beyond the arc during the spurt including two 3-pointers by James.
  • A 9-0 run by the Blue Jays gave them a 54-41 lead with 10:55 remaining.
  • Brian Johansson made it 57-44 on a shot from 3-point range with 9:35 to go, and his two free throws with 8:52 left gave Johns Hopkins its largest lead of 14 points at 61-47.
  • Consecutive 3-pointers by Eric Anderson '23 ignited a 12-2 run for the Continentals and Hamilton pulled within four at 63-59 on an Anderson layup with 5:06 remaining. The Continentals didn't get any closer than that down the stretch.
  • Patrick Mogan '23 hit a hook shot and Hamilton trailed by six points at 69-63 with 3:43 left.
  • Johns Hopkins closed out the last 2:16 by going 12-for-18 at the line and held at least a two-possession advantage during that time.
  • Neither team led by more than five points in the first half as there were six lead changes and four ties, including 30-30 at the break.
  • Teja Singh '25, who was selected for the all-NESCAC team earlier this week and averaged 12.5 points per game for the Continentals, left with an injury late in the first half and didn't return.
  • Hamilton shot 42.6 percent (29-68) from the floor, including 7 of 24 from 3-point range, and went 6-for-13 at the line.
  • Hopkins shot 43.8 percent (21-48) from the floor, including 8 of 15 from beyond the arc, and 79.5 percent at the stripe (31-39).
  • The Blue Jays held a 40-33 edge on the glass.
