Men's squash edges Wesleyan for big win over NESCAC opponent

Nisar '24 and Burgin '25 won in five games in clutch performances for the Continentals

Waleed Nisar '24
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Hamilton College Continentals edged Wesleyan University 5-4 in a thrilling match with postseason implications on Sunday afternoon.

Hamilton posted its third win against a NESCAC opponent this season and increased the likelihood that the Continentals will qualify for the eight-team conference championship. The 2023 NESCAC Men's Squash Championship is at Williams College on Saturday, Feb. 11 and Sunday, Feb. 12.

Just two of nine matches ended in the minimum three games and four matches were decided in five games. Waleed Nisar '24 picked a great time for his first win this season against an opponent from a NESCAC school. Nisar rallied to win in five against John Sutherby at the third position as Nisar captured the fourth and fifth games by scores of 12-10 and 11-9, respectively.

Tate Burgin '25 also prevailed in five games against Jack Lungstrum at the eighth position. After edging Lungstrum in the first two games, Burgin cruised to an 11-2 victory in the deciding fifth game.

Jacob Shulman '26 swept Morgan Shatzman at the seventh position and allowed just seven points. Shulman leads the team with five wins this season.

Nicholas Carabatsos '24 defeated Zachary Idinopulos in three close games at the ninth position. Tate Suratt '24 collected his 22nd career win at Hamilton by knocking off Abhinav Gupta in four games at the second position.
