Harris ’27 lifts women’s basketball to win at Rochester, 64-63

First-year plays heartbreaker at the line in the final second for the Continentals

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Kendall Harris '27 knocked down a trio of shots at the line with 1.2 seconds left and lifted the Continentals to a 64-63 non-conference win against the University of Rochester Yellowjackets at Rochester's Louis Alexander Palestra on Saturday, Dec. 9.

Season Update
  • Hamilton (10-0 overall) had won all of its previous nine games by nine or more points.
  • Rochester, which is a member of the University Athletic Association for basketball, lost its third in a row and moved to 3-5 overall.
How It Happened
  • Althea Hill '26 made a statement with a 3-pointer that opened the scoring in the fourth quarter and gave the Continentals an eight-point lead at 54-46. It was the largest lead of the afternoon for either team.
  • Rochester went on a 6-0 run and made it a one-possession game at 54-52 with 8:05 to go.
  • Harris stretched Hamilton's lead back to four points at 56-52 with two free throws.
  • The Yellowjackets went on a 7-1 spurt and held a 59-57 edge with 4:03 remaining.
  • Taylor Lambo '26 answered with the next two baskets for a 61-59 lead.
  • Rochester made jumpers on consecutive possessions and led 63-61 with 1:32 left. The Yellowjackets forced a Hamilton turnover but failed to convert on their end of the floor.
  • Lambo grabbed a defensive board and Hamilton called a timeout with 22 ticks to go. Harris was fouled from the 3-point line with 1.2 seconds remaining. The Yellowjackets attempted to ice her at the free-throw line by calling timeout, but the first-year was locked in and drained all three shots for the win.
  • Trailing 43-42 midway through the third quarter, Maria Mercado Rengel '24 netted two shots at the line. Harris buried a shot from 3-point land for a 47-43 lead with 2:42 left.
  • Lambo was sent to the line with 1:11 to go and hit both for a 49-46 advantage. The sophomore showed off her strength in the paint on the next possession as she put back her own miss for a 51-46 lead heading into the final quarter.
  • Rochester popped back-to-back 3-pointers for a quick 6-0 lead 1:12 into the first quarter.
  • Courtney Shay '24 countered with a 3-ball off a pass from Hill and cut Hamilton's deficit in half.
  • The Yellowjackets converted a 3-point play for a 9-3 advantage, but the Continentals took off with a 10-2 spurt for their first lead at 13-11 with 3:53 remaining.
  • Rochester took a two-point lead with 35 seconds to go but Harris drove to the basket and evened the score at 19 apiece heading into the second quarter.
  • After the Yellowjackets tallied the first four points of the second frame, Tessa Cole '25 and Harris netted consecutive shots from beyond the arc for a 25-23 edge.
  • Rochester rallied with five straight points but Piper Seamon '24 and Lambo went to work and scored four apiece in an 8-0 run for a 33-28 lead with 2:29 to go in the first half.
  • The Yellowjackets claimed the final basket with 16 ticks remaining and trailed 35-32 at the break.
  • Hamilton shot 35 percent (21-60) from the floor and 89.5 percent (17-19) at the line.
  • The Yellowjackets owned a 43-39 advantage on the glass.
  • Rochester shot 36.5 percent (23-63) from the field and 73.7 percent (14-19) at the free-throw line. The Yellowjackets were just 3 of 23 from beyond the arc.
