CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's
Teja Singh '25 poured in a career-high 38 points and the Continentals battled for an 84-77 non-conference win against the St. John Fisher University Cardinals at Hamilton's Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Saturday, Dec. 9.
Season Update
- The Continentals (4-5 overall) recorded their second win this week against an Empire 8 Conference team.
- St. John Fisher (5-4) is 2-0 in the Empire 8.
How It Happened
- Neither team led by more than six points in the first half as there were seven lead changes and four ties.
- Singh and Owen Kane '25 buried 3-pointers for Hamilton's first lead of the afternoon at 10-8 less than four minutes into the opening half.
- The Continentals forged an 8-2 run for a 25-19 lead with 11:01 remaining.
- St. John Fisher rallied with a 10-2 spurt for a 29-27 edge with 7:23 left.
- Trailing 34-32, Singh hit a shot from beyond the arc and a pull-up jumper in the paint to give Hamilton the lead for good with 35 seconds to go.
- Will Holmes '27 made a free throw with three seconds left for a 38-35 advantage at the half.
- The Continentals led by at least three points for the first 17-plus minutes of the second half.
- Hamilton gathered its largest lead of 10 points at 67-57 after a Jalen Reese '27 layup with 6:58 left.
- The Cardinals scored the next six points to trail 67-63 with 5:10 remaining.
- St. John Fisher's Daniel Cook and Connor Recore made a pair of shots apiece at the free-throw line and pulled within just one point at 73-72 with 2:27 remaining.
- Singh put the fans on their feet with a big-time 3-pointer for a four-point lead 12 seconds later.
- The Cardinals slashed its deficit in half with a layup but Holmes bulled his way through the paint and was fouled along the way for a five-point cushion at 79-74 with 1:36 left.
- Recore scored on a layup and put the Cardinals within three points at 80-77 with 25 seconds to go. The Continentals clinched the victory by going a perfect 4-for-4 at the line in the last 20 seconds.
- Hamilton shot 46.2 percent (30-65) from the floor, including 12 of 34 (35.3 percent) from the 3-point line. The Continentals went 12-for-16 at the line.
- The Continentals held a 36-30 edge on the glass.
- St. John Fisher shot 49.2 percent (29-59) from the floor, including 5 of 8 from 3-point range, and 73.7 percent (14-19) at the charity stripe.
- The Cardinals scored 48 points in the paint.
Notes
- Singh went 15 of 22 from the floor, including a career-best 8 of 11 from beyond the arc. The junior is third in the NESCAC with a 3-point field goal percentage of 38.9 percent and fourth in scoring with 16.8 points per game.
- Singh's point total is the most by a Hamilton player since Kena Gilmour '20 dropped in 39 at Colby College on Feb. 7, 2020.
- Morgan registered 13 points, a team-high eight rebounds and four assists.
- Holmes finished with eight points off the bench.
- Owen Kane '25 contributed seven points and four assists.
- Cook led the Cardinals with 30 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and four steals.
- Jack Foley and Recore tallied 11 points apiece for St. John Fisher.
- Brendan McRoy added eight points and two blocks.
- Hamilton and the Cardinals have played each other four times in the NCAA championship with the Continentals winning three of those games.
