Women's swimming and diving wins seven events at Wesleyan

Karlson '23 was part of the winning freestyle relay and took first in two individual events

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- Hamilton College swimmers finished first in seven events in the Continentals' narrow dual meet loss at Wesleyan University's Webster Family Natatorium on Wednesday.
 
Sam Karlson '23 was part of three Hamilton victories. Karlson anchored the 100-yard freestyle relay that won by one one-hundredth of a second with a time of 47.06 seconds. Emma DiGiacomo '25, Ashlyn Blessey '26 and Ella Brady '24 joined Karlson on the relay.
 
Karlson took first place in the 25 free with a time of 11.65 seconds and in the 50 free in 25.05 seconds. She was also runner-up in the 200 free (1:59.69). Blessey finished second to Karlson in the 25 free in 11.79 seconds and in the 50 free with a time of 25.21 seconds.
 
Jade Matthias '26 collected a pair of wins for the Continentals. Matthias captured first place in the 50 backstroke with a time of 27.43 seconds and the 100 individual medley (1:01.93). She was runner-up in the 25 back in 13.24 seconds. Caroline Shen '24 finished right behind Matthias in the 50 back with a time of 27.98 seconds.
 
Emma Robinson '26 grabbed first place in the 500 free (5:20.38) and was third in the 200 free (2:00.42). Charlotte Moulson '26 landed in third place in the 500 free (5:23.85) and was fourth in the 200 free (2:01.35).
 
Katt Withers '25 owned Hamilton's other win as she finished first in the 50 butterfly with a time of 27.08 seconds. Withers ended up in fifth place in the 25 fly in 12.65 seconds. Natalie Peng '26 was just ahead of Withers in fourth place in the 25 fly with a time of 12.58 seconds, and was runner-up in the 100 IM (1:03.05).
 
Holly Woodhouse '26 finished runner-up in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 32.74 seconds. Woodhouse also assured the Continentals would sweep the top three spots in the 100 IM as she was third in 1:03.34. Irene Keh '24 was third in the 25 breast with a time of 14.76 seconds.
 
Maggie Nye '24 led Hamilton in the diving events. Nye was runner-up in the 3-meter springboard with 157.72 points and finished third in the 1-meter board with 159.75 points.
 
The Continentals travel to Rochester Institute of Technology for another dual meet that starts at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7.
