Women’s basketball edged by Wesleyan, Lambo ’26 scores 28

Tight NESCAC contest featured seven ties and 11 lead changes

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- Wesleyan University's Brooke Guiffre poured in 32 points and the Cardinals posted a 74-73 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Wesleyan's Silloway Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. 

How It Happened
  • Wesleyan took the lead for good with a 13-4 run at the start of the fourth quarter and held an eight-point advantage at 63-55 with 5:40 to go. 
  • Hamilton answered with a 9-3 spurt and slashed Wesleyan's lead to 66-64 with 1:59 remaining. 
  • Guiffre forced a Hamilton turnover and Maggie Lee nailed a jumper for a 68-64 cushion with 52 seconds left. 
  • Emily Hall '24 netted a jumper in the paint and put Hamilton back within two-points with 42 seconds to go. 
  • Wesleyan was tested at the line and went 6-for-6 in the final 14 seconds. Guiffre's two free throws clinched it at 74-70 with just three seconds remaining.
  • Hall drained a last-second 3-pointer for the Continentals as time expired. 
  • Tori DaCosta gave Wesleyan a 22-17 lead at the start of the second quarter, but Hamilton responded with a 7-0 run for a 24-22 advantage. Lambo scored all seven points.
  • The Cardinals came back with their own 7-0 surge for a 29-24 lead with 5:05 to go. 
  • The Continentals ended the half with a 10-4 rally for a 34-33 edge at the break. Emma Sehring '23 started and ended the run with baskets in the paint.
  • Neither team led by more than four points in the first quarter.  
  • Wesleyan shot 50.9 percent (28-55) from the floor (28-55), including 8 of 16 from 3-point range, and was 10-for-12 at the line. 
  • Hamilton shot 50 percent (29-58) from the floor including 6 of 16 from beyond the arc.  
  • The Cardinals collected 28 points off 24 Continental turnovers.
  • Hamilton held a 37-24 advantage on the glass.

  • Hamilton moved to 10-9 overall and 3-4 in the NESCAC.
  • Wesleyan (10-10, 3-3 NESCAC) won its second straight. 
  • Taylor Lambo '26 tallied her sixth double-double as she tied a season high with 28 points and added 11 rebounds, including 10 on the offensive glass. 
  • Hall was 3 of 7 from 3-point range and collected a career-high 23 points. She added a team-best nine assists. 
  • Emma Sehring '23 posted her ninth double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 boards. 
  • Guiffre shot 11 of 15 from the floor including 6 of 7 from beyond the arc. She scored 22 of her 32 points in the second half and added five assists and a team-best six steals. 
  • Olivia Quinn contributed 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists for the Cardinals. 
  • Lee registered 11 points.
