Men’s basketball tripped up at Tufts, Anderson ’23 drops in 22

Senior guard set a career high in points for the Continentals

MEDFORD, Mass. – Tufts University's Tyler Aronson poured in 19 points and made four steals in the Jumbos' 57-54 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Tufts' Cousens Gym on Saturday afternoon.
 
How It Happened
  • Tufts scored eight straight points and claimed its largest lead of 10 points at 19-9 with 8:10 left in the first half.
  • Anderson went 2-for-2 at the charity stripe, capped off a fast break with a slam dunk and Conner Rood '23 hit a pair at the line that cut the deficit to four points at 21-17. 
  • The Continentals were still within four points at 26-22 after a Yashiya Crespin '26 jumper with 2:42 remaining. Tufts closed out the half with a 3-pointer and a jumper for a 31-24 lead at the break. 
  • The Jumbos owned a seven-point lead three times early in the second half before the Continentals went on a 13-5 run for a 44-43 advantage with 12:19 left. Liam Regan '23 gave Hamilton the one-point edge with a layup. 
  • Tufts evened the score at 44 apiece but Teja Singh '25 netted a jumper for a 46-44 Hamilton lead with 9:48 remaining. 
  • Tied at 46-46, the Jumbos James Morakis made a free throw and Dylan Thoerner finished off a fast break with a dunk for a 49-46 advantage with 5:10 to go. 
  • Trailing by four at 55-51 with 18 seconds left, Anderson nailed a 3-pointer on a pass from Singh with nine seconds to go. 
  • Aronson put the Jumbos back up by three on a pair of free throws with eight seconds remaining. 
  • Anderson attempted a 3-point buzzer-beater that would have sent the game to overtime but it failed to fall. 
  • Hamilton shot 35.2 percent (19-54) from the floor and was 11-for-14 at the line. 
  • Tufts shot 33.9 percent (21-62) from the floor and was 11-for-16 at the charity stripe. 
  • The Jumbos scored 19 points off 16 turnovers by the Continentals. 
  • Hamilton held a 47-37 advantage on the glass.

  • Hamilton moved to 10-7 overall and 2-2 in the NESCAC.
  • Tufts improved to 12-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference. 
  • Anderson led Hamilton with a career-high 22 points.
  • Singh contributed nine points and three assists.
  • Rood tallied eight points and 10 rebounds. 
  • Patrick Mogan '23 collected a game-high 11 boards. 
  • Thoerner netted 12 points for the Jumbos.
  • Trumann Gettings chipped in 10 points and five rebounds.
