Bowdoin College's Donal Mullane was credited with seven assists and the Polar Bears held on down the stretch for a 13-11 win against the Hamilton College Continentals in a 2022 NESCAC Men's Lacrosse Championship quarterfinal at Bowdoin's Whittier Field on Saturday afternoon.

Hamilton, which was the seventh seed for the championship, finished its season with an overall record of 7-7. The Continentals never held a lead, but committed fewer turnovers than the Polar Bears and were successful on 20 of 22 clear attempts.

Nationally ranked No. 7 Bowdoin (15-1 overall) is the second seed for the championship. The Polar Bears scored the first two goals and jumped out to a 5-1 lead less than 10 minutes into the contest. Bowdoin led 5-3 at the end of the first quarter, 7-5 at the half and 11-8 after the third quarter.

Christian Byrne '24 and
Torben Wunderle '23 paced the Hamilton offense with two goals and two assists apiece. Wunderle was playing for the first time since early March.
Rowan Brumbaugh '23 chipped in a goal and two helpers, and six other players scored for the Continentals.

Seamus Fagan '23 made 14 saves and
Jayme Wilde '25 caused two turnovers.
Quin Crowley '22 won 11 faceoffs and collected a season-high eight ground balls. Crowley also scored his third career goal.

Patrick Fitzgerald registered three goals and two assists for the Polar Bears. Will Byrne scored four goals and Jason Lach notched three more. Robert Hobbs stopped 16 shots including 10 in the first half. Beau Burns won 11 of 16 faceoffs and picked up five ground balls. Byrne scored three of Bowdoin's first five goals as they took a four-goal lead a little more than nine minutes into the first quarter.

The Continentals were able to pull within a goal on two occasions. Crowley made it 2-1 after he won a faceoff, gained control of the loose ball and scored 1:51 into the first.
Britt Defeo '22 pulled Hamilton within 7-6 on his 22
nd goal and team-high 36
th point 91 seconds into the third quarter. The Polar Bears pulled away by going on a 6-2 run capped by Fitzgerald's man-up goal for a 13-8 advantage with 6:57 left in the fourth.
