Men's basketball drops regular season finale at Trinity

Osarenren '22 made three steals and leads the conference

The Hamilton College Continentals came up short against the Trinity College Bantams, losing 51-32 in their final NESCAC game of the regular season at Trinity's Oosting Gym on Saturday afternoon.

The Continentals (12-12, 4-6 NESCAC) had a tough time getting anything going on offense. Hamilton connected on 22 percent of its field goal attempts and was 2 of 22 from 3-point range.

Liam Regan '23 led the Continentals in scoring with eight points. Conner Rood '23 contributed nine rebounds and three assists. Nick Osarenren '22 made three steals and leads the conference with 2.5 per game.

The Bantams (13-8, 4-5) were paced by C.J. Redd, who provided a spark off the bench with 13 points. Donald Jorden Jr. posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Jordan Jr. also locked down the paint, with three blocked shots. Will Dorion handed out five assists.

Even though the Continentals struggled on the road, their defense kept them in the game for the entire first half. Hamilton jumped out to a 5-0 lead on a Rood layup and Regan 3-pointer. Regan hit the Continentals' only other 3-pointer of the contest for an 18-17 lead with 2:12 remaining. Jorden Jr. hit a mid-range jumper as time expired and gave the lead back to the Bantams at 20-18.

Hamilton never regained the lead in the second half. Trinity scored 15 straight points as the Bantams held the Continentals without a basket for more than 11 minutes. A jumper by Patrick Mogan '23 pulled Hamilton within three points at 25-22 with 16:44 to go. By the time Mogan found Elliott Tirbaso '22 for a layup with 5:22 left, the Continentals trailed 40-24.

Hamilton will play an opponent that will be determined on Monday, Feb. 14 in the first round of the NESCAC championship.
