Trinity College first-year guard Hannah Marzo drained a pair of free throws with 24 seconds left that lifted the Bantams to a 63-61 NESCAC victory against the Hamilton College Continentals at Hamilton's Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Saturday afternoon.

The Continentals concluded the regular season with a 9-12 overall record including 2-7 in the conference. Hamilton will compete in the first round of the NESCAC championship on Friday, Feb. 18 against an opponent that will be determined on Monday.

Trinity improved to 16-5 overall and is tied for first place in the conference standings with an 8-2 record. The Bantams were 20 of 47 from the floor (42.6 percent) and 20-for-25 at the charity stripe. Trinity is receiving votes in the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll.

Hamilton was paced by
Kelcie Zarle '22 with 21 points and she added three steals.
Maria Mercado Rengel '24 scored nine points off the bench and
Emma Sehring '23 collected eight points and two blocked shots.
Olivia Davis '23 chipped in seven points and
Emily Hall '24 tallied seven and led the defense with four steals.
Claire Sehring '22 led the Continentals on the glass with eight boards.

Tori Varsamis led Trinity with 16 points and Reilly Campbell collected 12 points and a game-high four blocks. Samantha Gallo was a rebound shy of a double-double with 11 points and nine boards. Bailey Hyland tallied 10 points and Marzo and Liz Althoff had seven apiece.

Hamilton still led by five points at 57-52 after a jumper in the paint by Zarle with 3:59 remaining. The Bantams fought their way back into a 59-59 tie on a Hyland layup with 1:19 to go. Mercado Rengel was sent to the line with 47 seconds left and she sank a pair of free throws that put Hamilton back into the lead. Campbell tied the score again at the line just three seconds later.

Campbell came up with a block on the next possession and Marzo grabbed the loose ball and was fouled. She made both and gave Trinity its first lead since midway through the first quarter. The Continentals missed a 3-pointer with four seconds left and Campbell blocked a shot attempt from close range as time expired. The Bantams led for just 4:13, most of which was in the first quarter.

Trinity started the first quarter with four quick points before Zarle opened the scoring for Hamilton with a steal and fast-break layup.
Emma Sehring and
Ellie Storey '22 followed with baskets in the paint that tied the score at 6-6. Hamilton outscored Trinity 6-3 during the last 1:42 of the quarter for a 17-14 advantage. The Continentals shot 8 of 14 from the field for a total of 18 points in the second quarter, and held a 35-27 lead at the break.

Hamilton continued its offensive rhythm in the third quarter and took its largest lead of 10 at 41-31 after a steal and fast-break layup by Hall with 7:24 left. Trinity responded with a 10-0 run and tied the score with 3:36 remaining in the third. Hamilton answered with a 10-3 spurt that covered the last two minutes of the quarter and put the Continentals up 51-44 going into the final 10 minutes.
