Men's hockey falls at Trine, Allaire '23 gets goal and assist

Senior leads the Continentals in points and won 17 faceoffs against the Thunder

Trine University scored three goals in the second period and the Thunder defeated the Hamilton College Continentals 4-2 in a non-conference game at Trine's Thunder Ice Arena on Friday night.

Season Update
Hamilton dropped to 5-4-0 overall with its first regulation loss since Nov. 20. Trine is 7-5-1 and has won three straight dating back to early December.

How It Happened
  • After a scoreless first period, the Continentals took advantage of their first power play opportunity 4:51 into the second when Fred Allaire '23 scored on a feed from Ben Zimmerman '26.
  • Sean Henry evened the score for the Thunder at 7:30 of the second.
  • Trine killed two penalties and then received a five-minute power play with six minutes left in the period when a Hamilton player was sent to the box for a boarding major.
  • The Thunder made the Continentals pay by scoring twice late in the power play. Garrett Hallford gave Trine the lead for good with 2:33 remaining, and Tim Organ made it 3-1 with 1:11 to go.
  • Sam MacBean '23 pulled Hamilton within a goal 2:33 into the third period on assists by Zimmerman and Allaire.
  • The Thunder thwarted three more Continental power plays before putting the game away with 13 seconds left. Hamilton was whistled for its second major penalty of the night – this time for contact to the head – with 55 seconds remaining. The Continentals had already pulled goaltender Charlie Archer '25 for an extra skater for 40 seconds, but Archer had to return to his net when the penalty started. Archer went back to the bench with 30 seconds to go after Allaire won a faceoff, and Brendan Prappas put the puck into the empty net a few seconds later.
