Women’s hockey celebrates NESCAC overtime win at Trinity

Smith ‘24 netted her sixth career goal and lifted the Continentals to a 2-1 victory

Hamilton College's Abby Smith '24 scored 2:13 into the sudden-victory overtime period and the Continentals posted a 2-1 NESCAC win against the Trinity College Bantams at Trinity's Koeppel Community Sports Center.

How It Happened
  • Trinity's Stephanie Nevers put the Bantams on the board 4:50 into the first period on a pass from Martina Exnerova.
  • Maura Holden '23 scored the equalizer with 5:36 remaining in the second period. Abby Kuhns '23 gathered possession and fired a pass to Maddie Hong '23. Hong sent it ahead to Holden who navigated through the defense and sent a high shot into the back of the net.
  • The teams combined for 18 shots in the third period but no goals, and the teams went to overtime.
  • With a little under three minutes left, the Continentals sparked a counter-attack, and Hyla Mosher '23 and Kuhns sent passes to Smith. She danced around the Bantam defenders and slung a no-doubter to the upper right-hand corner.
  • Hamilton held a 36-21 shot advantage.
