Lambo ’26 nets 23, women’s basketball hands Rochester its first loss

First-year forward led Continentals with her first double-double

Hamilton College's Taylor Lambo '26 scored 15 of her season-high 23 points before halftime and the Continentals pulled out a huge 80-75 non-conference win against the nationally ranked No. 16/18 University of Rochester Yellowjackets at Hamilton's Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Saturday afternoon. 
 
How It Happened
  • A layup by Emma Sehring '23 gave the Continentals an eight-point lead at 74-66 with 1:59 left.
  • The Yellowjackets applied pressure, forced turnovers on three consecutive Hamilton possessions and collected five straight points. A free throw by Callie McCulley cut it to 74-71 with 30 seconds remaining. 
  • Althea Hill '26, Lambo and Olivia Davis '23 clinched the win by combining to go 6-for-6 at the free-throw line as the Continentals built an 80-71 lead with nine seconds to go. 
  • Rochester opened the first quarter with a 15-2 run and led by as many as 14 at 22-8. 
  • Lambo scored eight of Hamilton's nine points in the first quarter, but the Continentals trailed 22-9. 
  • Hamilton started the second quarter with an 11-3 run. Emily Hall '24, Lambo, Hill and Courtney Shay '24 scored during the rally.
  • Sehring drained a jumper in the paint and cut Hamilton's deficit to three points at 36-33 with 1:57 remaining. 
  • Hill nailed a jumper and Maria Mercado Rengel '24 drained a 3-ball that made it 39-38. Lambo collected an offensive board, made the put back and ended the half with a classic and-1 play for the Continentals' first lead at 41-39. 
  • The Continentals scored 32 points and were 12 of 22 from the field in the second quarter.
  • Neither team led by more than six points and there were three ties in the third quarter. Hamilton held a three-point edge at 56-53 heading into the final 10 minutes. 
  • Hamilton shot 46.8 percent (29-62) from the floor, including 6 of 13 from beyond the arc, and 80 percent (16-20) at the charity stripe. 
  • Rochester shot 43.3 percent (26-60) from the field, including 11 of 26 from 3-point range, and just 63.2 percent (12-19) at the line. 
  • Hamilton held a 41-32 advantage on the glass. 
  • The Continentals tallied 38 points in the paint.
Notes
  • Hamilton won its third consecutive game and improved to 5-1 on the season. 
  • Rochester (6-1) is ranked 16th in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division III Top 25 poll and 18th in the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll. 
  • Lambo earned her first collegiate double-double with 10 boards and is fourth in the conference in field goal percentage at 55.2 percent. She was 9 of 13 from the floor. 
  • Hill tallied her fifth consecutive game with double digits in points with 17 as she was 3 of 6 from deep. 
  • Sehring scored all of her 12 points in the second half. 
  • Hall contributed seven points, eight boards and a team-best five assists. She leads the conference with 5.0 assists per game. 
  • Davis added nine points and Shay chipped in seven. 
  • Sestric led Rochester with 17 points, four assists and two steals. 
  • McCulley registered a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards.
  • Maura Leverone collected 10 points while former Division II all-American Katie Titus added nine for the Yellowjackets.  
Next Game
  • Hamilton will travel to local non-conference opponent SUNY Polytechnic on Wednesday, Dec. 7 for a 5 p.m. tipoff.
